Local school board trustees are paid only $16,160 per year.

That’s not a lot of money for the service they provide to our communities.

The people who do this are not in it “for the money”. They are in it because they want to make a difference in their community.

Thank you for your service. 🙏

I highly recommend RARE conservation area for outdoor education field trips! Fabulous hands-on learning in nature. Pond study, birdwatching, insect observation, learning about life cycles and the needs of living things... learning how all species on planet Earth are interconnected. 🥰

I just read a beautifully written endorsement of @avilewis.ca by Libby Davies in my email today. I almost deleted it, as I had many of the 188 emails I’d received since this morning. I’m glad I paused to read it.

May all hostages be returned to their loved ones. May all hostilities cease. May all people be able to access the food, water, medicine, and care (including trauma-responsive mental health care) that they need to not only survive but thrive.

May peace prevail.

When anger and fear are your motivation, they will eventually fizzle out and you will burn out.

When love and hope are your motivation, you will find that you can keep going.

Anger feels powerful. But that power is fleeting.

Find what you want to fight FOR, not against.

I’ve long loved the game “Guess Who” for encouraging hesitant newcomers to engage in oral language activities in a small group setting. The cards provide visuals to support vocabulary development (clothing, facial features, colours, etc) that can be supported with oral and written sentence frames.

Using highly visual resources can really help newcomers in Grades 5 and 6 to learn new academic vocabulary and write about energy and electricity in Science class. The good news is that visuals can help everyone else to learn as well! Literally no downside! #UniversalDesign #YesMLLsCan

Grade 1 students love to do research using highly visual resources. Teaching children how to take notes (instead of copying verbatim from a text) by creating a simple web that they can reproduce themselves at any time (without a photocopier) will serve them for the rest of their school careers.

Language is part of all subject areas. Grade 4 students are exploring different plant and animal habitats in Science class. Newcomers on STEP 1 ESL programs can use vocabulary charts and sentence stems, translation, and visuals to support content and language learning goals. #OntEd #YesMLLsCan

Human brains are being re-wired.

Social media and texting have trained human brains to expect information in short chunks.

Long-form prose is becoming increasingly difficult to manage for many, with complaints of information overload, overwhelm, and cognitive fatigue.

Current mood:

In the time it took you to email back and forth with questions you could have just read the first email in its entirety and had all of the answers.
