Dr Campbell Price has been Curator of Egypt and Sudan at Manchester Museum since 2011, and he has published widely on ancient Egyptian material culture and its interpretation. His new book The High Steward Senenmut: His Life and Afterlife will be published soon (4/5)

However, more than most elite ancient Egyptians, Senenmut made extensive plans for his eternal commemoration – and seems to have enjoyed an enduring reputation in some quarters long after his death. This lecture reviews the evidence for the legacy of Senenmut, in both ancient and modern times (3/5)

The story of Senenmut, the highest official under the female pharaoh Hatshepsut, usually ends with the damnatio memoriae it is often assumed that he shared with his royal mistress (2/5)

Aidan Dodson is honorary Professor of Egyptology at the University of Bristol, where he has taught since 1996. He is the author of some thirty books, and his “The Libyan Pharaohs of Egypt: their lives and afterlives” is due to be published by the AUC Press around the end of the year (4/5)

This talk will explore some of the strands of history of this often-ignored era of Egyptian history, including the way in which the protagonists were rediscovered by modern historians and archaeologists (3/5)

The Libyans had been enemies of the Egyptians, with conflicts going back into the third millennium BC. Yet early in the 10th century BC the first of a long series of pharaohs of Libyan descent ascended the Egyptian throne, running through to the 7th century BC (2/5)

For our September meeting (7th September, IN PERSON), we are delighted to welcome Professor Aidan Dodson, who will give a talk on "The Libyan Pharaohs" (1/5)

Nice find (and well spotted)! I wonder if the museum could advise?

Dr. Jacquelyn Williamson is an Egyptologist, with a special focus on gender and religious power. Her book, "Nefertiti's Sun Temple: A New Cult Complex at Tell el-Amarna", part of Brill's Harvard Egyptology Series, was published in 2016 (4/5)

This discussion will present several reconstructed scenes and inscriptions that shed light not only on Nefertiti, but also on the afterlife beliefs of the period, which are mostly unknown (3/5)

Nefertiti's Sun Temple, called a "Sunshade of Re," is a fascinating puzzle. Although partially destroyed in antiquity, enough remains of its decoration to ask, and sometimes answer, new questions about the Amarna Period of ancient Egypt (2/5)

Our August meeting (Sunday 3rd, ONLINE via Zoom) will feature Dr Jacquelyn Williamson giving a talk on "Nefertiti's Sun Temple: Queenship and Death at Amarna" (1/5)

Vibrant painted scenes on the walls of tombs at Beni Hasan provide a window into the lives of the ancient Egyptians c2000 BC. These monuments date to a less well-known period of Egyptian history and are located in a rarely visited part of Egypt but are of artistic and historical importance (2/5)
