This project was funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. With many thanks to our expert contributors, Zoltán Ivics, Claire Booth, John James, Subarna Chakravorty, and Julio Delgado.
Announcing our new short film Gene Horizons! This documentary is an intro to gene therapies for the public and the classroom. Interviews from experts and unique stop-motion animations bring the science of gene therapy to life.

On Friday, our Dep. Coordinator Aurélie Mahalatchimy will chair a symposium on the impact of policy and regulatory strategies on #ATMP development, with speakers from the European Commission, French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, and the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices.
Come and find us at ESGCT Congress 2025! #ESGCT25

We have a stall at F2-06 in the registration area all week - stop by and say hello, see our new film, and find out about our work sharing the science behind gene and cell therapy.

We've upgraded our website with improved navigation, a new search function and an updated design.

We're always looking for feedback from our users to help us improve our site and content, and prioritise new updates - so if you use EuroGCT or any of our resources, let us know what you think!
With thanks to our expert reviewers Laura de Rosa, Silvia Zacchino and Katia Russo at Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia and the Centre for Regenerative Medicine Modena, and our partners DEBRA Austria.

EB is a genetic disorder that affects how cells and tissues are held together, causing extremely fragile skin that tears or blisters from even light friction or minor injuries. Earlier this year, the first ever topical gene therapy was approved in the EU to treat wounds caused by dystrophic EB.
Whether you're navigating a diagnosis, part of the research community, or just curious, we believe everyone deserves access to trustworthy, accessible information on gene and cell therapy.

We use the internet to share fundamental science, current research, and the legal/ethical aspects of these treatments. We collaborate online with scientists, clinicians, advocates and others across Europe to create our resources. Our volunteer network supports translation into 7 languages.
🌍 Happy World Wide Web Day!

Without the internet, what we do at EuroGCT wouldn’t be possible. We're here to help European citizens make sense of gene and cell therapy; what it is, how it works and how it might affect them.
Anna Couturier led a panel on including patients in therapeutic development. The conversation highlighted the mutual benefits of engaging with patients at the earliest stages of development, and the need to share PPI methodologies, best practices and success stories across the industry.
🗪 Is the advanced therapies industry doing enough to capture the patient voice?

At #AdvancedTherapiesIntegratesNorth, one theme came up repeatedly throughout a day of insightful panels: the importance of building trust and communicating meaningfully with patients.
Panellists will include:

Efstratia Papoutselou, Rinri Therapeutics
Arunesh Sil, Sanofi
@Caoimhe Nic An tSaoir, Lonrú Consulting
Paula Shutt, @sicklecelluk.bsky.social
Priscilla Fernandez, @edinburgh-uni.bsky.social
EuroGCT is supporting #AdvancedTherapiesIntegratesNorth!

Anna Couturier will facilitate the "Putting Patients First" panel session to explore the role patients play in therapeutic development, and how their needs and experiences must shape the process.

🌍We were pleased to make it into the @edinuni-irr.bsky.social research roundup for #WorldHealthDay! Although part of our team is based in Edinburgh, we work with our partners across Europe to produce information about gene and cell therapy research and regulation.
3. Based within IRR, EuroGCT brings together 47 partner organisations and institutions across Europe. Their goal is to provide reliable and accessible information about the use of cells and genetic material to treat disease.
🏆 We are pleased to share that our project manager, Anna Couturier, PhD., has been honored by the International Society for Stem Cell Research for her work on their Education Committee.

This month, we met with our legal researchers in Aix-Marseille to promote understanding of the legal route to ATMP development across Europe.

Our Research Pathways Directory aims to help navigate the complex process of bringing gene and cell therapies from the lab to patients.
