Mark Kiszla: How best little hockey town in USA made it Brock Nelson’s destiny to play in Winter Olympics
MILAN – The river is frozen hard as granite in the real Hockeytown, USA, where the wind chill out on Muskeg Bay is: Don’t ask. But inside the Nomad Tavern – where if the piping-hot pizza doesn’t warm ...

Happy for Joel Kiviranta to get an Olympic goal.

When I asked him about his role, he said he’d do anything to help Finland.

“If they told me to pick up the pucks, then I'll pick up the pucks.”

Martin Necas gets the scoring started for Czechia.

Naturally, it was on the power play.

For the first 38 games, 41% of Cale Makar’s shots were hitting the net. Since the new year, that number has dropped to 27%.

Makar recalibrating is one of a few things #GoAvsGo fans should be hoping happens at the Olympics.

Good news is that whatever was ailing Martin Necas prior to the break doesn’t appear to be an issue right now.

He’s creating some of the best looks for Czechia.

Has felt like Cale Makar’s accuracy has been off in Colorado for the last little while. It wasn’t in the first period for Canada.

Really fun first period of Olympic hockey.

Gabe Landeskog remembers 2006 fondly when Sweden beat Finland for Gold. Kiviranta’s view is different.

“That's kind of the only memory. I don't know if it's a good memory or not."

When the #GoAvsGo return from Olympic break, their schedule is bonkers. 27 games in 52 days, starting with 5 in 7.

“Which is crazy,” Manson said.

The break comes at a good time, though. A reset was needed.

“We haven’t been playing fantastic hockey.”

Avs will head into the break with a win and a 5 point lead in the Central. 3 games in hand on Minnesota, 2 on Dallas. Avs hold all the tiebreakers right now.

Next game in Utah, Feb. 25.

Oh boy. We're all tied up now. Girard gives it up at the offensive blueline and Blackwood might have been cheating for a potential pass there.

That was Nathan MacKinnon's 700th career assist.

Two for Lehkonen tonight.

Oh no. A MacKinnon shot appears to have hit Jack Drury in the throat area. He's headed straight to the locker room.

Hoping for the best.
