🌟 KIDS, TEENS, SCREENS + SOCIAL MEDIA 🌟

I’m excited to share this fascinating chat I had with @peteetchells.bsky.social, author of Unlocked: The Real Science of Screen Time and How To Spend It Better

Highly recommend this to anyone interested in combatting their internal gendered biases of autism🌈🥰 (4/4)
evelynmurray.bsky.social
I'm looking forward to reading the book and continuing to learn more about how we can build systems—educational, medical, and societal—that better reflect and support the full spectrum of people. (3/4)
evelynmurray.bsky.social
Her presentation was both deeply insightful and challenging, shining a spotlight on how autism has been historically underdiagnosed and misunderstood in girls. (2/4)

Today, I had the brilliant opportunity of attending a talk by Professor Gina Rippon @ginarippon.bsky.social , where she introduced her new book The Lost Girls of Autism. (1/4)

Excited to share this piece while it goes through peer review. I’d love to hear any thoughts 😊!

Involving the public in #Cyberpsychology research can help improve studies in this field and I’m so proud to add my findings! (4/5)
evelynmurray.bsky.social
This preregistered mixed-methods study found that people don’t always see all online platforms as “social media” and endorse more negative than positive impacts. However, this sometimes differed between generations, and open-ended responses revealed how context dependent these impacts are! (3/5)
evelynmurray.bsky.social
Research has extensively explored the (potential) impacts of social media on mental health and wellbeing, but it's less clear whether the public actually endorse these impacts. So, we asked them! (2/5)

I’ve just submitted my first PhD study for publication — and it's officially up as a preprint!

Bob Jones - Mouse with Wine and Cheese Illustration Original Art (c. 1972). This well-mannered mouse is having a bit of a picnic in the field. Sitting on a rock under tall, flowering weeds, he enjoys a spread of wine and cheese on a tartan blanket among the grass and toadstools. He's dressed in vest and coat and seems very content with his day.

Media is media-ing again.

Blaming video games, music, or media offers simple answers but ignores deeper systemic issues like inequality, mental health, and violence. It's lazy, unsupported by evidence, and distracts from real solutions that require accountability and change. #moralpanic

Of interest to those interested in the 'effects' of social media on youth mental health: a Channel 4 titled “Swiped: The school that banned smartphones” (Wed 11th Dec, 8pm UK).

They are labelling it an "experiment", so I'm interested to see how experimental it is!

In the time we've had a TikTok paper under review (not that long), one country has passed a bill to ban social media and a court in the US has rejected an attempt to appeal a law - paving the way for a TikTok ban. Our results = there will be no psychological benefits of a ban. osf.io/preprints/ps...

Before my late in life #autism diagnosis I had occasional emotional outbursts. These generally happened at home after a sustained period of pressure at school or at work.
When I discovered I was #Autistic I realised that these were actually what people call #meltdowns.

This is an excellent video on bot farms and how they’re trying to twist our perception of truth and reality

Very informative video provides a deep dive into bot farms on social media with a focus on Twitter/X. It's wild that at least 1/3 of the accounts are Twitter/X likely bots. It's a cesspool of inauthentic engagement.
