In light of recent emotionally salient events - wondering how these are remembered? I’m thrilled to share new work from the lab, led by lab manager Julia Pratt, capturing emotional memories *inside and outside the lab* and quantifying their accuracy & structure pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39870487/
Positive affect amplifies integration within episodic memories in the laboratory and the real world - PubMed
Emotional events hold a privileged place in our memories, differing in accuracy and structure from memories for neutral experiences. Although much work has focused on the pronounced differences in mem...

I want to draw attention to a special issue that Lila Davachi and I put together to memorialize our friend and colleague Sarah DuBrow. It’s full of papers inspired by her work and her being from a group of collaborators, friends, and fans! Thanks @bradpostle.bsky.social for helping make this happen.

When are our memories integrated or fragmented? In our new review, Krystian Loetscher and I consider how stress and alcohol influence memory binding. Check it out as well as the rest of the exciting Stress and Alcohol special issue of Neurobio Stress! pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38375503/

So excited to have this out - congrats co-auths @brynnsherman.bsky.social, Bailey Harris, Nick Turk-Browne, and Rajita Sinha!
Stress tends to enhance memory for emotional events. Yet stress is also thought to hurt the hippocampus (which supports episodic memory). With @evgoldfarb.bsky.social & others, we explore this paradox and demonstrate how cortisol can *enhance* hippocampal function to support emotional episodic mems!
Hippocampal mechanisms support cortisol-induced memory enhancements
Stress can powerfully influence episodic memory, often enhancing memory encoding for emotionally salient information. These stress-induced memory enhancements stand at odds with demonstrations that st...
