A bit about myself. Obviously not as bright as you are. Everything on BlueSky is off the record.

I am working today but I think my clients think we’re off & it is delightful.

Clicking through the various news org videos on YouTube this morning, I was served a couple of advertisements regarding health care “treatments” that even without investigating the merits, I am doubtful of because of the logical fallacies being presented as part of the sales pitch.

Announcement:

Tomorrow, January 2nd, is Friday.

Repeat: Tomorrow is Friday.

For many of you, time returns to
“normal” on January 5th however for those who are back in “reality” tomorrow, we salute you.

I was out and only caught the second half of the #THFC match which from what I am seeing may have been a blessing.

Asking sincerely…

Is it too soon for #FrankOut?

FT 0-0. I really hope that is the worst football match that takes place in 2026, in any league, at any level. If there's anything worse than that, something's gone wrong.

Happy New Year! An easy 6km to start 2026 off right. There was a good amount of fresh snow, which made the choice to wear trail shoes a bright one on my part. Good luck runners and have a great year.

ENZO MARESCA IS OUT AS CHELSEA MANAGER 🚨

Just 172 days after winning the Club World Cup, Maresca departs. A breakdown in relations, and just two wins from eight games in December, leads to a conscious uncoupling, per @FabrizioRomano 👋

Why did the algo feed me this? What does Google know about me? (Everything, TBF.) Well, it's not a bad first song of 2026 for me. Thanks, John, et al! CC: @themountaingoats.bsky.social

One of the things that some of the younger nerds will not get to experience is the first time watching episodes of The Twilight Zone on NYE.

I loved watching WPIX, staying up, and starting my New Year with wry subversions of expectations.

Maybe this is a false nostalgia thing but I do miss it.

It's 8 AM on Dec 31st. I have a plan. Last run, weight workout, spin bike, and sauna of the year on tap.

But first...

I have to shape the dough for my last loaf of '25 bread and make more dough for '26 bread.

Priorities, you know?

My final QotD for 2025 is this...

What obligation are you under to read a book written by an acquaintance? I know that buying a copy, and displaying it properly, is important and appreciated but is it insulting to let it sit on my TBR pile?

I wrote out my resolutions for 2026. I like the accountability that having a list implies.

I just published my Favorites of 2025 on my vanity domain. I did not consume a lot of new media and a lot of what I did consume, I did not love.

The Interregnum between Christmas and New Years is always weird for me. I don't do anything work adjacent but then find myself triaging my e-mail on a random Saturday. That being said, back to back calls and having to draft things following the calls was both disorienting & welcome.

Sunday was pretty great.

1. #THFC won ugly but still won.
2. Buffalo lost.
3. @libraryshoes.bsky.social thrifted me a gorgeous Brooks Brothers puffer.
4. I got to eat fried cheese with L.

Sport coats have utility. Good shoes last forever. Well made classics are nearly ageless.

(Also, guys, have a couple of different belts.)

1-0 Gray, nods in the third ball from a corner, after RKM wins the first one at the far post then Richarlison nods it on.

Goal. Archie Gray scores a scrappy goal which comes from a corner which is not properly dealt with by Palace. #CPFC

Is it legally allowed for VAR to negate a Richarlison goal when he hasn’t even taken his shirt off to celebrate?

I hate it so very much that Dimes Square is sticking. SO VERY MUCH.
Sovereign House, an event venue in Lower Manhattan, was a gathering spot for a cross-section of right-wing Gen Z-ers: crypto bros, young religious people, internet posters, literary types. Now its founder is opening a members-only social club. newyorkermag.visitlink.me/SEYpic
The Party Politics of Sovereign House
Nick Allen’s venue in Dimes Square was a popular gathering spot for right-wing Zoomers. Now he’s opening a new club called Reign, an attempt to build a lasting cultural institution.
