Gråhuken (Grey Hook) Svalbard by Kirsty Banks

Day 6 circumnavigating Svalbard on the expedition boat, The Meander. In the far North and one of the remotest parts we travelled to, stands Christiane Ritter's cabin Grey Hook.

Over the last two years he has been working on two long term photographic projects. One documenting ‘change’ in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, the northernmost community in the world, and the other working with a touring Circus to document their experiences of performance, identity and community.

He was previously Associate Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies at Bradford University. Graeme is a member of Luneside Artists Studios, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and the Royal Geographical Society.

Graeme Chesters is a freelance photographer, writer and researcher based in the North West of the UK. He is also Research Director for the 90 North Foundation, specialising in research, conservation and education on issues relating to the Central Arctic Ocean.

After studying Fine Art at Manchester Metropolitan University, she spent 20 years teaching Art. Throughout her teaching career, her love for the natural world and the environment grew, and her work increasingly focused on the Arctic, the ocean, and the urgent issue of climate change.
