Blocking TRPA, TRPV, TREK-2, and Piezo mechanosensitive channels, as well as P2 receptors, did not block stimulation either.

We also observed no membrane poration, but did see strong attrition effects, that may be related to long term effects seen by others.

The efficacy of extremely short pulses points away from gradual mechanisms like cavitation and heating.

Blocking synaptic receptors didn't prevent stimulation, blocking action potentials did, implicating a target downstream of the synapse, but upstream of the action potential.

Happy to say our ultrasound paper is now out in Brain Stimulation

We used cultured neurons to dissect mechanisms of ultrasonic neurostimulation.
Most surprising: even an extremely short (4µs) single low-intensity pulse can generate neuronal activity.
