These "year in review" things every app seem to do really gross me out. Great way for them to show how much surveillance they do against you. They log everything you do, when you do it, who you do it with.

True story: Microsoft software design is the reason I got interested in interaction design and made a career out of it.

I had to understand why smart colleagues kept struggling with their computers. Thanks for sucking Microsoft.

Alan Dye leaving right when Apple starts pushing iOS 26 to mainstream users (and hearing back from them) would be an odd coincidence.

Notable that many of most Mac assed Mac apps (Keynote, pPages, Numbers, Final Cut, iMovie...) haven't changed their design for #liquidglass.

I'm not sure if that's because liquiglass was rushed and there just hasn't been time, or if the people in charge of them refused to.

I'm not sure they will.

"Alan Dye is not untalented. But his talents at Apple were in politics. "

"there's nearly universal agreement amongst actual practitioners of user-interface design that Alan Dye is a fraud who led the company deeply astray."

Apple (almost) never acknowledges mistakes directly, but when they leak that the next releases will be focused on "software's quality and underlying performance", that's how you know they know they fell short.

iOS 27 could be Mac OS X Snow Leopard all over again
This year's major aesthetic overhaul will reportedly be followed by an update focused on stability... and AI.

I'm loving Apple's holidays ad: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-avON...

The making of is worth watching too:

When other brands go full AI slop (looking at you Coca Cola), Apple goes the other way: tons of humans artists and… puppets.

You can't fake heart and soul.

Seems macOS Tahoe spotlight can't do any quick math anymore?
There goes 50% of my use for it :(

Also the (x) icon is just for show, it can't be clicked or otherwise triggered activated.

Apple has published a page with the best third party #liquidGlass apps.

Despite biasing the compare (static for iOS 18, animated for iOS 26), I can't say any of the after are actually better, and many had to employ hack to be not completely awful.

Did @panic really use Zelda's Trifoce as the icon for the LINKed files feature?

Not sure that's great UI, but definitely makes me smile!

Did I need to buy that hundredth live Springsteen album?
No, but it's about the price of a pack of cigarettes, much healthier and brings me rare confort.

(and this one has a different version of a song I like)

@harrytrimble.bsky.social please don’t use continually changing colours for the full area of your slides background. It’s distracting for everybody and for people like me with vestibular disorders it makes us physically sick. I had to look at my shoes for the entirety of your talk…

Stuff magazine tips for how to make the most of iOS 26.

Number one tip: disable #LiquidGlass by enabling accessibility options.

With a painful but accurate reference to Windows Vista.

No, it won't be just usability experts like me complaining.

Brace, brace.
