Gender and Sexuality in Faetalia Gender and sexuality is a lot different in Faetalia than what we, as human beings, may be used to. For one, things like 'cis' or 'heteronormativity' would simply not exist, so please remove those notions from your mind when it comes to this world and the fairies in it. There is no 'straightness being the norm', there is no need for a cis man and cis woman coming together in order to make babies, there is no discrimination around any of these things. Homosexuality and transgenderism, or just being explorative with one's gender, is, and has always been, incredibly commonplace in Faetalia. about schools, the law, and religion 🌼✨
Q: What is schooling like? Are there high schools? Universities? A: School is far less traditional in Faetalia, meaning there are no big establishments where fairies have to go five days a week to learn. Rather, it's more community-based and self-reliant on a fairy's willingness to learn, and an older fairy's willingness to teach. There's no curriculum all fairies are taught or a strict schooling system. What one might learn, get taught, or seek out will vary from location to location and from fairy to fairy. Think of it more like mentors and mentees, or community-led classes for a certain skill or subject that a parent may choose to send their child to. Q: What is the law like in Faetalia? Are there cops? Prisons? A: There are no cops and no prisons in Faetalia, and especially not the shitty systems that are used in the real world. There are certainly rules and specific social practices in place that should be followed, probably varying depending on the royal. And there are knights who ensure that things are kept in order, peace is maintained, and everyone is kept safe. But the knights are not cops and should not be compared to such. Obviously, there will be consequences should a fairy commit a crime or cause distress to the public or other fairies, out the consequences will not be prison-time, going to court, or being detained by "cops" or in this case the knights. Knights will likely step in to take care of it, but violent responses are always the last resort, and consequences will vary on what crime has taken place. Q: Is there religion in Faetalia? A: With the existence of The Founder and the Original Fairies, some sects have broken off that could be considered religious, aiming to worship these beings. They have given these mythical fairies a 'God-like' status, whether or not that's really what they were. The way in which these fairies are worshipped often varies depending on where one is and which group it is. Each has their own beliefs that they have assigned to these figures, and how they worship them differs as well. Oftentimes, the tales they weave are far from the true series of events that occurred all those years ago, but that does not matter to these fairies. Q: Is there religion in Faetalia? • We ask that real world religion is not brought into Faetalia. While we don't really mind if you take aesthetic cues from catholicism or something or use a cross in your design. But that doesn't mean fairy catholicism exists. Nor do we really care to have one-to-one replicas of real-world religion. • Religion in Faetalia is polytheistic. • if you plan to create your own 'religion', please understand that none of it would be real/ canon unless it is lore that the creators have established to be true. • We ask that religions do not contain puritanical aspects, nor that those who are apart of any religion look down on or try to convert those who aren't. We really do not want to bring in the harmful aspects of real world organized religion.

about fairy size, types of fairies, bigotry within the world, and technology 🌸🌷
Q: How big are fairies? What is the scale of the world? A: As one would expect fairies to be, the fairies of Faetalia are small. Bite-sized. Itty bitty. But, the use of “feet” or “centimeters” can still be used as long as it’s in “fairy inches”. Below is an image of a height chart with a bee at 1.5 inches, a fairy (The Founder) at ~4 inches, a mouse at 4 inches, and a bird at 5.5 inches. Q: What kind of fairies are we working with here? A: The fairies in Faetalia are the human-adjacent kind. While we encourage creativity, we do ask that you still make a fairy within the guidelines of our server. The best comparison that can be made for Faetalia fairies is the Tinker Bell kind. Itty-bitty humanoid fairies with pretty wings who live in a world bigger than them and have powers related to the elements. If you’re looking to create other types of fairies or fae creatures, this may not be the place. Q: Does racism/homophobia/transphobia etc. exist in Faetalia and can I use it as a part of my character's backstory/story? A: No, any form of bigotry does not and should not exist within Faetalia. While characters can hold prejudice they should not be bigoted. These biases should never have arised in Faetalia. Being queer is normal, being trans is normal, and there's never been any race-based discrimination in Fatalia. Please keep it away!!. Everyone is made equal and treated equally. This is fun fairy land! We can use this to escape from those evil things! Q: What is the extent of technology in Faetalia? A: There is no modern technology in Faetalia. It is a fantasy world full of magic. They do not have computers, cars, cell phones, etc. Anything more advanced, like fast communication or travel, would be powered by strong magic, not electronic technology. We are very lenient, however, on coming up with cool, fantastical ways to mimic real world tech. So long as it feels imaginative, magical, and fairy-like!

Other Info The island of Fatalia is big by human merits, that way it can host "human-sized" flora and fauna which are very large in comparison to the fairies living there. Trees tower over them, large enough for multiple fairies to live within, flowers and plant life are big enough for one to perch upon, and the animals that roam the land are formidable in size. Some are gentle giants, while others could pose a real threat to the island's small inhabitants. Adjacent to Faetalia is another vast mass of land where much larger beings, like humans, live upon. A lot of the items used by the adjacent island's inhabitants wash up to Faetalia's shore and are used by fairies for a variety of means, usually furniture or housing. (i.e. spools of thread for stools, teapots for homes, etc.) Other Info Faetalia is large enough to have two separate time zones. The top and bottom halves of the island experience opposite times of day —while one half enjoys daylight, the other is shrouded in night. This is reflected in Cosmotelluria and Aliferous, which circle around the island throughout the day. That way in Cosmotelluria, it always remain night, and in Aliferous, it always remain day.

The Creation of the Island In the beginning, there was only a vast emptiness where there was neither light nor darkness, neither sea nor land. But suddenly, without any warning, something appeared. It was a beautiful being comprising all the elements of the world. They were made up of all the water from streams, oceans, and ponds, all the fire of the sun and lava, and all the earth from mountains, plains, and deserts. They were everything and yet, they were alone. They had no one to share the beauty and wonder of their world with. Filled with a deep longing for companionship, they decided to take pieces of themselves to create their family. The first being made a being of earth, another of the air, and yet another of the water. They also created beings of the dark, the fire, and the ice. But even then, their family was dying, for there was nowhere for them to survive. The first being was heartbroken but knew what they had to do. With their remaining power, they created Faetalia, a world with earth for their family to live upon, water for them to drink, sky for them to breathe, fire to keep them warm, ice to keep them cool, and darkness because not all could be light. With this act of love and sacrifice their physical body no longer remained, but they were not sad, for they knew that they would be able to watch over their family and everything around them forevermore.
