In 1991, the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommended universal hepatitis B infant vaccination, aimed at stopping viral transmission, because maternal screening alone didn't identify all at-risk infants.
