Yesterday night, SIESTA got it's 500th Merge Request on gitlab!

But what is a Merge Request? It's the main avenue we have for adding features and fixes to the code base. If you want to add your own contributions to SIESTA, have a look at these guidelines:

If you are a scientific software developer and struggle on how to get your work cited, I can't recommend this seminar enough!

📰 NEW UPDATE❗

💻 Last week, ICN2 held the #SIESTA Advanced Workshop, where insights on this #OpenSource code were exchanged. It's used to simulate materials and molecules large scale.

🎉 We also celebrated its 30th anniversary!

On June 1995, on a CECAM conference, three people presented the first results on SIESTA.

It's June 2025, we held a CECAM workshop exclusively on SIESTA developments. More than 45 people attended for an entire week!

A toast for SIESTA, and it's 30 years of contributions!

Why is the deployment of MaX codes on the #EuroHPC systems a game-changer for the #HPC community?

To discuss the topic, we welcome Nicola SPALLANZANI, Technologist at CNR-Nano and MaX WP1 - Lighthouse Applications for Materials Science:

💡 Did you know that the challenge of the #100tifiques programme in 2019 was to find 𝟏𝟎𝟎 female researchers to participate?

🚀 Yesterday, #11Feb, 610 #científiques visited 502 schools to inspire young students, including 9 ICN2 women.

"Keep politics out of science and universities!" Says the kind of person who went to university and is an established scientist because of the amount of societal privileges they (or well, usually a "he") accumulated.

Ah, the cursed place of open source scientific software: not famous enough to generate fortune, and at the same time so important and so complex. Forever doomed to "parasite" adjacent scientific projects, always underfunded. Maintenance? What's that?

In these weird times, I've found this page collects some european alternatives to common web services:

I heavily recommend to have a look at it!

My friends in FOMO, take a break to remember why you enjoy doing something: don't let daily quests, limited editions and cosmetic rewards diminish your sense of fun; compete, discover, relax, do with your games what you really enjoy doing and not what a corporation is telling you to do.
fedepedron.bsky.social
This is the real the answer to the question "why bother?" Why try to push for inclusivity, why put effort into things that others might consider "lost" causes. If you try, you might not get the result you expected, but something will be done. If you don't, then for sure nothing will be done.

Episode #109 of @becauselangpod.bsky.social gave me probably the most important takeaway of the year: not losing hope on a cause is important, not because you will necessarily achieve things, but because if you don't hope, you won't even try.

In Spain we are calling them "mariposts" because the Bluesky logo is a butterfly and butterfly in Spanish is "mariposa"
