I'm #colorblind and I use https://xkcd.com/color/rgb/ frequently.

Randall 'xkcd' Monroe did a survey of over 100,000 readers where he showed them random rgb colors and said "what would you call this?" and afterwards he did his best to sort the results into the most popular color names and the […]

This week I think I had my first AI slop security report. One of our Security team pulled me into a discussion where someone reported a bunch of random ports open on some of our load balancer IPs, including FTP. None of us could reproduce the ports showing as open, and I showed the LB config […]

@b0rk We do this at work for our assets domain. Our customers have a subdomain of our main domain, and load assets from a single, separate domain, so the assets domain needs to allow *. This is safe for the reasons you say, it's never private data.

Yeah, this is why I’m very unlikely to go to FOSDEM or anything like it anytime soon. Was bad enough getting a regular cold from large events, a pandemic taught me that humans are gross and don’t care about preventing spreading illness

@piger Sometimes I do miss doing stuff in Perl. A while ago I was wondering whether it would be worth it to try something with Raku

@michael That sounds like the app is trying to auth against the wrong PDS. Is it trying to log in to the Bluesky one?

HTTP allowing duplicate header names was such a mistake.

Today I got to try out a Yamaha BBP34 and BB434. Very nice basses! Very comfortable neck and good tone from them. Somehow I think I preferred the feel of the neck on the 434 which I couldn’t make sense of as they’re almost the same.

I've considered doing the same with my Gmail account. It was never my primary address anyway, but I get more mail there for people who are not me than I ever did for me, so I've pretty much abandoned it.

Want to write an HTTP access log consumer for stuffing logs into (probably) DuckDB to do analytics-lite. Caddy is already writing one file per vhost but while writing a file tailer in Go is doable is kind of annoying to deal with all the edge cases. Tempted to switch to using a fifo instead but […]

Oh my, has GitHub finally fixed Dependabot for Go?

https://github.blog/changelog/2025-12-09-dependabot-dgs-for-go/

Curious to find out if this has actually improved things and stopped telling me to update things that aren't used.

I've got multiple shelves full of old computing text books that I can't decide what to do with. Most of them are probably too outdated to be useful now. Can't decide whether to just stick them in the recycling or look for somewhere to donate them.

@nelson I had this same pain a couple of years ago when I decided to finally abandon my Gmail account (which gets mistakenly used by the world and his husband). I have to have Fastmail pulling in my Gmail account just in case for those few services that won't let my change my address.

In the 90s I had a similarly weird design tower PC from Gateway Computers. It was an inverted T, where the motherboard was flat on the bottom, so the bottom of the case was like a thin desktop, but had a tower glued on top.

Can't find any photos of that model unfortunately […]

Look, recruiter, I know you're trying to flatter me, but try harder.

"Your OSS contributions to grpc-go stood out."

ORLY. You mean this one stupidly simple bugfix? https://github.com/grpc/grpc-go/pull/8684 Sure, yeah, that's a prime example of my work.
