After the subzero temperatures and the minus twenty windchills, today, at 17 degrees, sunny and no wind is tolerable! Also, my 14 y.o. Jeep Wrangler, “Marigold” has been one of the best purchases I ever made. So nice to have a reliable, 4-wheel drive vehicle during a snowstorm out here on the farm.

So cold outdoors this morning with -15 wind chill. Kept warm in the kitchen making a quiche with our fresh eggs, yellow squash, thyme, and cheese. It turned out delicious and custard-like.

I’ve been streaming Ken Burns’ “The American Revolution” on PBS. So insightful to revisit our history through the stories and words of the colonists,as well as those of freed and enslaved Africans and Native Americans. I have 3rd & 4th great grandfathers who fought on opposing sides of this war.

Received a new hatchery catalog and although I’m not sure I’ll add chicks to the flock this year, it’s fun to look at all the breeds. Of course ever since the husband saw the photo on my 2026 wall calendar, he’s been wanting a crested Polish. We’ll see.The hard part is going to be choosing colors!
