This does make me angry. And sad. And another two are now missing.

Wildlife photographer Dylan Coundley-Hughes captured breathtaking drone footage of a fin whale, the world’s second-largest animal, surfacing off the coast of Cornwall. Spotted in Falmouth Bay, the whale appeared alongside dolphins, tuna, and seabirds.

Another who's '10 year old me' would have lost her mind seeing this. Raised on Jacques Cousteau, Wade Doak, the 20 volume set of the International Encyclopaedia of Wildlife books and of course every BBC documentary on wildlife going- this is very cool.

I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA

Eels. To paraphrase “Cotton Eyed Joe”: Where do they come from? What do they go?

We’re still working in on it! Or.. well…not me. I just do the history bits. But the good folks at @whoi.edu are!

So this little guy is hanging around the house today- much to the delight of the dogs.. although I have a few trees we are pretty much on the edge of a moor.

It's so depressing- also rather frighteningly shows what an injection of US money can do. Far right groups up into now have had tiny numbers marching - now look.

Fed up of the news? Watch Freddie Flintoff Field of Dreams S3 (and watch S1 and S2 obviously if you've not already).

2/2 there are countries incentivising submissions, driving up the numbers of poor, unethical papers that get bounced around until they get reviewed by some overworked and inexperienced PDRA and get through. Fight fire with fire. Very glad I am out of it though!

There are models like this out there. Incentives and being public means that no one can phone it in, power balances are reduced through transparency. ARRIVE & PREPARE guidelines can be evidenced in the text, public data can be scrutinised and help ensure reproducibility.
