Yes we are falling behind because fossil fuel corps have spent the last 15 years swarming rural towns with disinformation that wind and solar will give them cancer, have chips in them for China to spy on them, ice will spin off and decapitate their kids and other conspiracies.
We're talking about nuclear, or even just fossil fuels, instead of "pursuing an aggressive buildout of the cheapest and fastest energy that we have, which is solar and to some extent wind."
