Bobby Dicks, CNN: "We're a small but mighty team. From a revenue perspective, we put a little bit in the jar, but I think we have value."
fiatifta.bsky.social
Sila Berrutti, RAI: "My department is in charge of national and international sales. We're not huge, but we cover a large amount of national production. The strategy is to deal one-to-one relations with professional producers and also to be a part of big projects."
fiatifta.bsky.social
Where does commercialization sit within your organisation? 💸

Razib Chatterjee, RTÉ: "I think all of us in bigger organisation have seen our roles changing and continuing to change. As long as all archives know how to add value, that revenue will increase and our impact will grow as well."
fiatifta.bsky.social
Katrina Stokes, BFI: "I hope the work of the archivist / researcher role will be more valued in the future."

Looking into the future 🤖

Louise Broch, DR: "AI-generated content is on our programme now. We'd like to mark it as AI-generated. Of course we can see it now, but how will AI content be in 10 years? We know our archives are authentic, but for how long will we be able to keep that authenticity?"
fiatifta.bsky.social
It's important for all archives to watermark their treasures. That's one of the things we're thinking about now, we have to position ourselves being authentic."
fiatifta.bsky.social
Billy Segal, IPBC-KAN: "Today we use a lot of socials, we invest a lot and I see revenue in it. That brings customers. But of course, I'm at the end of the archive, I see the cultural importance of the archives. It's important for all the decision-makers that the archives are supported."
fiatifta.bsky.social
Razib Chatterjee, RTÉ: "If that content is found in any way, and it is associated to your brand, the business will eventually come back to you."
fiatifta.bsky.social
"We go to FootageFest, we go to @focalint.org, we do our best to show up and be in front of people. There's always plenty of opportunities to share newsletters, and we partner with third parties to push that information along. We do our best to be visible in these spaces."
fiatifta.bsky.social
What are the biggest barriers to monetizing your archive, in terms of promotion? 📢

Bobby Dicks, CNN: "I'd say location, just being able to reach everyone all the time. (...) CNN is a huge machine, and we are a small part of it. We need to be careful about the message we share as a business unit."
fiatifta.bsky.social
Louise Broch, DR: "It's crucial for us to explain to the organisation that we have a really valuable archive."

"Every time we had a task for production, we make a survey to get metrics. We also change the workflow: the archive is not at the end of the production process, but at the start as well."
fiatifta.bsky.social
How do you demonstrate the value and impact?

Sila Berrutti, RAI: "It's a matter of direct revenue and the number of contracts we close. Our goal is that our archive is accessed by the largest number of people, so we are trying to minimize our access cost. Access is a key word in this strategy."
fiatifta.bsky.social
Are you investing in metadata enrichment? 🏷️

Billy Segal, IPBC-KAN: "We are now planning to bring AI for enriching the metadata, but everything was catalogued, so we've been lucky in that way. The archive really became an asset when we digitised 90% of it."
fiatifta.bsky.social
🇮🇪 Razib Chatterjee, RTÉ:

"I think we are quite different from CNN. We are a public media organisation, I think it's difficult to calculate what percentage of our archives are being monetized. (...) But for us it's not always about monetizing, we try driving value by adding value to production."
fiatifta.bsky.social
🇺🇸 Bobby Dicks, CNN:

"I would say the entire archive is monetized. (...) There's always change in what has value, depending on what the market is demanding at the moment and the changes in clients."
fiatifta.bsky.social
How has an archive generated significant value for your institution?

Zoé Macheret, @ina-officiel.bsky.social, shares an initiative called "Just Listen to Women", where they created a transmedia project based on archival testimonies: book, documentary, and podcast.
fiatifta.bsky.social
Sila Berrutti, RAI:

"It's more of a mix for us. On one side, it's a piece in our budget, we can say it's a property itself. On the other end, in the sales process, we have to take care of what archives are in RAI identity."
fiatifta.bsky.social
⚖️ Balancing Commercial Value and Cultural Identity in Archives:

Katrina Stokes, BFI:

"We cost and project onto projects, and we try to recuperate our investment, but many of our commercial initiatives are subsidizing our cultural mission."
