Scientists accidentally discover a new spider species in Thailand, which they only notice because one of them is half-male half-female.

They name the species Damarchus inazuma, after a One Piece character who can switch between male and female.

No this is not a joke.

FUN FACT

orchid literally means testicle and is a reference to the plant's older names of dogstones, dog's cods, cullions, fool's bollocks, bollockwort, etc

... because some of them look like this when you dig 'em up

Orchis mascula, or early purple orchid. It features two particularly large tubers, and its scientific name means "virile testicles". It happens to also be a particularly robust plant species.

I suspect that, like Mastodon, this service will come across as too technical for most people to be comfortable using.

That is why we have corporate monopolies. Their simplicity supercedes all other concerns - especially the pedantic ideals of the free software community.

BlueSky is probably doing this in expectation of continued censorship under US and UK law, and by payment processors.

Both of which are due to our flocking to one or two services per sector and empowering them to lobby governments and control international trade.

Speech being legal does not oblige partaking in it. BlueSky is completely within its rights to forbid any "legal" speech they don't want on their platform.

The PROBLEM is humanity is addicted to tyranny and actively refuses to entertain a network of competing services - only one (BlueSky atm)

"Plenary authority" refers to being the one in charge of a particular operation as opposed to someone else in the govt.

Yes, the US President has plenary authority OVER THE ARMED FORCES.

But that does not supercede the Constitution, since it's the Constutution which provides that authority.

Note that this funding applies to very specific artists, i.e. those who hold public events like music performers. Public events sell tickets, etc. So it should work if applied to similar performers in the US but would not be as plausible for, say, random online commission artists.
