Named from the magpie (Pica pica), this fungus has a cone-shaped cap, brown-black silvery scales, and a tall white stem. Found in beech woodlands & nearby ground.

Stick-like, forked fruiting bodies — black base, white powdery tips that fade with age. Found year-round on dead deciduous wood, most striking in autumn/winter.
