Exactly! Lots of Santa hats and silly costumes. We’re not allowed to run on Christmas Day so we have our event the weekend before, one of our volunteers even brings his guitar and sings carols!

The first timers brief is for anyone who hasn’t run the course before, covers how the course works and any important H&S stuff. At my event through the summer we’ve had 50% first timers so lots of people at the brief and we get lots of comments about useful it is

It’s something they’ve evolved to do and therefore must increase their chances of survival. It is very quiet when they are not singing, but we appreciate them more when they are back

I suppose. Or are they just indulging in a bit of self-care after getting completely frazzled trying to find enough caterpillars to feed the babies. Kind of the bird equivalent of a haircut, a pedicure and a quiet lunch out with a good friend 🤔

Yes it is. They also don’t want to attract the attention of predators as moulting can affect their ability to fly 😢

I’m not sure… mine were already split between nights here and nights at dad’s which I think was a big factor, they just wanted to be home
