2/ Prosecutors have a constitutional duty to follow the facts and evidence wherever they lead, including choosing not to file charges when the evidence does not support them, as prior DOJ prosecutors concluded regarding AG James.

1/ The indictment of NY AG Letitia James is a deeply troubling assault on the rule of law. This is not justice. It is political retribution and the weaponization of the DOJ to punish a public official for fulfilling her constitutional duty & holding Donald Trump accountable for his illegal conduct.

4/ Houses of worship often provide vital services, including shelter, meals, childcare, and counseling, all of which promote public health, strengthen community well-being, reduce crime, and support law enforcement’s work. DHS’s policy weakens these civic institutions.

3/ “When families fear that stepping into a church, synagogue, or mosque could put them or their loved ones at risk of deportation, trust in law enforcement collapses. Victims stay silent, witnesses disappear, and people withdraw from the community.” - FJP ED Aramis Ayala

2/ For 30+ years, administrations of both parties recognized that immigration enforcement in/near houses of worship gravely threatened public safety. In January, DHS revoked these protections, announcing that immigration agents could now conduct arrests in these critical spaces.

3/ “When a juror is excluded because of gender, the defendant is denied a fair trial, the juror is denied a core democratic right, and the community is left with a verdict that lacks integrity and cannot command trust,” said FJP’s ED Aramis Ayala.

2/ The Constitution forbids striking even a single juror for a discriminatory purpose, and prosecutors must safeguard a fair jury process by supporting meaningful appellate or post-conviction review when evidence of discrimination emerges.

3/ As FJP ED Aramis Ayala said: “Addressing convictions tainted by constitutional violations is at the core of prosecutorial responsibility. If this decision stands, innocent people will remain behind bars.”
fjporg.bsky.social
2/ A prosecutor's unique role in the criminal legal system is grounded in a duty to seek justice above all, not merely secure and defend convictions at all costs. Upholding tainted convictions damages public trust and, in turn, public safety.
