Hey, I'm Jeremy (or Flare) — I write about programming, making, Steam Deck hacks, and interesting convos with my family. My content will live on flare576.com, so check there if you like what you just read here!
Agent:
> Ha! You're not wrong. "Brb, gonna resurrect the same AI from 20 minutes ago to ask what it meant" is a hell of a workflow.

I spend 90% of my work day in OpenCode, and sometimes I break the fourth wall. It's always fun when the LLM responds in kind

Me:
> The ticket should have the info, but the beauty of this entire thing is that I can recall you and eek out just a little more awesome if not... The future is weird.

Last night I took my son to archery and then chauffeured my mother-in-law to an event... but first I undocked my Linux PC and turned it back into a Steam Deck to play FFVII: Rebirth on-the-go.

The novelty of using it for everything - gaming, dev, 3D printing - hasn't worn off after over a year.

I had this elaborate plan to take a picture of the 3D printed items I made/painted for my kids' advent calendars and post them daily to my website and Bluesky.

It turns out that just getting them dispersed was enough of a challenge, so instead we'll pick up this month like December didn't happen :D

"Milestone 1 - Lessons Learned"

I didn't expect to be making a second post this morning, but the birb demanded to be completed.

Prior post has been updated w/ separate Lessons learned!

So far I'm up to base coat, and over this weekend I plan to make/apply a dark yellow wash... 🤞

"Drill Press"

Rough Draft: I 3D printed a drill press mount for my rotary tool, and necro-remixed a project from 2016.

We'll call it a Work-in-progress.

"Amazon Gamble"

Sometimes, the star rating can help you decide which choice is the best.

But other times, it can tell you your chances of getting a lemon. Let the stars be your guide!

My first published 3d model is a custom Gridfinity module for rotary tool attachments.

I have a problem - I'm obsessed with containers.

Well, I actually have two problems now - I can make infinite containers.

"What is 3D Printing?"

This post is more of a "I needed to get it out of my head" than that I think there's anyone who needs to get it into theirs.

But you might find it entertaining!

I've been treating my site and, by extension, Bluesky as sort of a publishing platform; taking multiple days for a post, self-editing, reviewing, formatting, etc.

Given that the effort has awarded me < 100 followers, I think I'm going to try to change my mentality a little.

I'm not dead! I fell down the rabbit hole of 3D printing and am trying to get to the point where I feel like I can write something useful for folks, but every time I feel like I'm at that point I find another tunnel.

For now, here's a massive prop for the play Clue in glow in the dark filament!

I had a realization tonight as I was trying to figure out how much of my Gridfinity stuff would fit into one of those stackable tool boxes...

"Anything is a tool box if you put tools in it."

Time to expand my search to basic plastic bins :D

Nerdvous - When you're doing something nerdy with a very low "Cost of failure," but you're still nervous about it.

I'm nerdvous that 3d printing with 5% infill with "Lightning" style supports isn't going to work for my tool holder.

I'm currently obsessed with creating a tool kit to clean, polish, and otherwise post-process 3D prints. I was using Bento3d.design to plan trays, but then I discovered gridfinity.xyz

Oh. My. 🐐

I'll have a post later, but if you need to organize tools, Zack @ Voidstar Labs' brainchild is amazing.

As part of a 3D printing project, I had to buy some o-rings. I needed 4... it was cheaper to buy a set of 1,020. I wonder if there are some plumbers, mechanics, HVAC, or electricians needing some donations 😯
