And that degrades the land and steals from future generations so power can power more AI doomsday machines and be sure more people can Netflix and chill. Thats not the path forward in my humble opinion.
All I was saying is that I witnessed first hand predatory development of gorgeous landscapes in Central NY by solar companies because there were a lot of incentives at the time and there were aging boomer farmers who were vulnerable and easily enchanted by a hands off revenue stream.
Also, in addition to farmer I’m employees as an electrical power systems engineer. I at one time worked for a wind turbine manufacturer and helped design solar/wind hybrid micro grids to provide electricity to remote communities.
I just don’t believe in stealing sun from living soil. I’m all for wind and solar. I actually really like wind because it is very energy dense and I think the turbines a quite graceful. I just wish the solar panels would be limited to roofs and parking lots.
I wasn’t directly referencing Biden. A lot of grant opportunities predate his admin but yeah he carried them forward unlike this atrocity of an admin. Also, I specifically said livestock farmers. I can’t think of a time in recent history when I heard dem messaging aimed at a cattleman or shepherd.
That’s great! And yeah I agree with the price vs quality balance. In most cases you’re purchasing soil improvement and resource conservation in addition to food that is nourishing. It makes a huge difference in the life of the small farmer, too. Thanks for supporting your local market and farmers!
In some cases I’m sure that’s true. But the herd size being the lowest since 1951 according to the article has to do with a lot more factors than the perceived greed of a rancher. A lot of ranchers got out of cow/calf a while ago because it became a break-even at best for most producers.
I’m not a republican and I voted for Harris, but to be fair, a lot of premium grazing land was lost to solar development in my area during Biden years because of shiny incentives as part of the Green New Deal. I don’t know that democrats have really ever been a great friend to the livestock farmer.
I’m by no means defending republicans, but democrats haven’t been much of a friend to the livestock farmer in the past few decades either. And to be clear, I’m not a republican and I voted for Harris.
Food is actually expensive and it should be expensive. In America, it is made artificially cheap through imports or government subsidies. Ranchers aren’t subsidizing like commodity crop farmers. Other countries spend a lot more of their money on quality, locally produced food with real nutrition.

Farmers are a pretty dynamic group actually. You might be surprised how many did not vote for him.
Lots of local, small scale farmers and ranchers selling direct to consumer. Many are producing artisan quality meats that are healthier and taste better, and focus on high animal welfare and land stewardship. They’d love to have you as a customer I’m sure. Many of them are still liberal hippies too!
Putting farmers and ranchers out of business so they can get the land that’s been locked up in family ownership for generations. Bankrupting food producers in a massive land grab is what we’re seeing.
It’s not the rancher’s responsibility to make sure things are affordable, which in itself is subjective. Ranchers who were “cashing in” were mostly likely getting out of ranching because the business is otherwise a difficult way to make a living, and I’m not talking about the hard work aspect of it.
Agreed, it’s all a massive land grab. I think they’re mostly after water and minerals, large corps pretty much already have control of the bulk food supply and these corps have been colluding with the government for decades. Most of these farmers sell commodities to corps.
Ding ding, it’s all a massive land grab.
Haha nice! Sometimes they are a baaaaaaa’ing acapella group.
thank you! Have fun at the festival!
