Vancouver staff told council that if it rezoned land so a developer could build a big tower, the developer would spend $6 million on making the surrounding area nice.

The city’s auditor general found that didn’t happen, and that staff basically shrugged their shoulders about it.

A Day in the Life of Abed Salama: Anatomy of a Jerusalem Tragedy, by Nathan Thrall is very good and highlights the draconian geographical limitations placed on Palestinians under occupation, and how they are *literally* fatal.

“How many times, then, will Western journalists allow themselves to be fooled by Israeli propaganda – by military denials that later collapse under the weight of evidence?”
Israel’s Military Now Accepts 70,000 Killed in Gaza – But Why Did Our Media Let Them Get Away With Denying It for So Long?
I have spent the past two years debating the credibility of the Gaza Health Ministry’s numbers with supporters of Israel. It turns out the Israeli military agrees with me, not them.

Ideology on the left, ideology of the right, professional journalism calling balls and strikes in the happy middle. pressthink.org/2010/06/clow...

In the competition for "influence" that was the plan. Now it's in ruins.
