Was feeling a little hard done by with the 5am start & the close to 2 hours of driving in the complete darkness 😫

...but wow did the Devon landscape come through 😳 I mean - absolutely incredible day to be out, despite the rather absurd round trip

Looking out at the rather miserable day, thinking about Stourhead, doubt we'll be able to get over there this year before the colour has peaked & then gone 🍂🍂
but a couple of years ago we got the most perfect day for it 😊

Howden Minster, viewed through the remains of its east end - a victim of Edward VI and later neglect. The area from the tower to the west end are still in use as the parish church. The whole is GI listed, and one of the most striking buildings in the #EastRiding. #WindowsOnWednesday

The stunning west door of St Botolph's Priory in Colchester, which was founded c. 1093. Largely built from recycled Roman bricks, it was dissolved in 1535 and is now a stately ruin. #MedievalMonday

For #RomanFortThursday, the formidable ramparts of Rough Castle along the Antonine Wall
If you have a scroll up through the thread there's a lot more from along the defensive system and several other forts
🧵/25
this is Rough Castle, feel like we're getting into #RomanFortThursday territory but this is a spectacular place, even more so in Autumn (click for full image)

Could I get a little help from the #HillfortsWednesday family

pictured is the wonderful Clovelly Dykes, North Devon

So multi-enclosure sites ...whats going on there exactly? do we have good evidence for how this different morphology was used ? or why it exists? i'm drawing a blank so far
