Someone really should publish Henry Darger's 10,000-page novel.

Now watching: ‘Orca – the Killer Whale’, dir. Michael Anderson, 1977. A ‘Jaws’ knock-off with rather superior production and a serious cast. Lovely Morricone score. 🎥🎬

Pro Tip: If you ever have to put in really long hours, watch behind-the-scene interviews with actors and film-makers working on shoestring budgets. It's extremely motivating.

10 Must-See Indie Horror Movies of 2025 - Soundsphere magazine
2025 has been a record year for horror movies. Such theatrical releases as Sinners and Weapons cleaned up at the box office, while others like Shelby Oaks, Frankenstein, and Good Boy brewed up plenty ...

Did some maths & worked out that if every one of my 12,400 followers on Bluesky was moved to buy a paperback of Villager after reading this extract, & I received the royalties from that in 2026 I still wouldn't have recouped 1/4 of the unpaid earnings my ex-publishers owed me when they went to hell.
I've removed the paywall permanently from this piece, which is a chapter from my novel Villager, told entirely in the form of an online village message board. If you like it, you'll probably like the book. If you don't, you won't...

The Village Message Board
Its authenticity was discredited because of his reputation, but also because he was quick with gin at the time and wearing an item of knitwear back to front.

The solution to every single one of your concerns about the impact of generative AI on creativity is solvable by massively increasing public subsidy of art and reducing housing costs. You should be able to work twenty hours a week and do your creative stuff the rest of the time and still live.

I suspect Taylor Swift is going to be in for a bit of a shock when it comes time for AOTY lists.

I rather like Landman, but the mother and daughter might be too irritating to get past.

Casting Nicolas Cage and FKA Twigs as Jesus' parents is so crazy it almost makes me want to see The Carpenter's Son.

Kind of wild to me that Bryan Adams had been recording for at least a decade when he broke out with the Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves soundtrack. We just don't see that kind of patient career development these days.

Music is basically a detective novel where the musicians are the suspects/criminals, the listener is the detective and of course the music is the crime. The listener tries to determine what happened and what was the motivation, while the musicians try to obscure this, so they can get away with it.

Recent promotion cycles for both the new Sabrina Carpenter album and the new Sydney Sweeney movie make me wonder if celebs are now cynically cultivating outrage, thinking we'll be too stupid to remember in 5 minutes.
