Joyce knows the value of a night without children and doesnt say anything. But theres a face. Sue is familiar with the face, judgey and unhappy. It says just as plainly as if joyce had opened her mouth. 'Are you sure you want him around your kids.'

Another thing Sue knows is time and place.

When joyce rolls up and asks who will be watching the boys, Sue holds her tongue.

She doesnt remind joyce that theyre nearly all 16 years old, there are terrible things that have happened in Hawkins. She understands paranoia. So instead she says. "I'll be here and ive got steve to help me."

And she wont have to deal with all those teenagers alone. Shes been politely pretending for weeks that she doesnt know steve isnt living at his house anymore. Shes been keeping him there late and forcing him to sleep on their couch, she and Claudia have a schedule they coordinate with the buckleys

It opens on joyce dropping will off. Sue has volunteered to host the capital P Party at her house now that the Byers are back. Erica is at the age where she wants to hang out with her brothers friends but doesnt want to admit it. If she can subtly make that happen she will.

Because in my mind Sue has basically had the exact opposite experience with steve as joyce. Where joyce knows him as the kid who fought her son and spraypainted graffiti about nancy (and possibly that he rightfully broke jons camera but its possible that slipped her notice but if not you know he-
