In his La Cueva series, LUIS BERMUDEZ explored our human connection to the natural world, via caves & masks…which I never considered as being two aspects of the same thing … gah mind expanded!!! #AbstractArtist #AbstractArt

Finally fotos of PERLA KRAUZE, the artist responsible for the art.
The artist Perla Krauze kneels on one knee, looking up to the left, surrounded by art pieces. Black and white photography of Perla Krauze seated in an armchair, she has short hair and glasses, smiles at someone off camera, off to the right.
fotoslasirena.bsky.social
Gah bsky needs edit capability as I had a complete block on PERLA KRAUZE’s name and kept writing Paula or Krause or both and I can’t tell you how many times I had to delete and re-do this 🧵. Gah, Daniela!!!

Stone workshops in Puebla Mexico feature stones that other stones are cut upon, they bear the markings of the blades used in cutting & PERLA KRAUZE uses these in many of her artworks. Quite stunning to me. #AbstractArt

This installation by PERLA KRAUZE at a gallery in Brooklyn (from 2019) features materials from both New York and Puebla & Oaxaca, Mexico. Asking questions about connections, the history of materials, territories, malleability of things we think of as permanent. #AbstractArtist #AbstractArt

PERLA KRAUSE is a painter, sculptor, installation artist. Many of her recent works use, assemble, reassemble rocks, tying her work to geology and at same time intangible motions like memory & history. 🧵 Natl Hispanic Heritage Month #AbstractArtist #AbstractArt #Mexico

And finally, fotos of MIGUEL CASTRO LEÑERO, the artist behind the art.
Miguel Castro Leñero in black & white photo facing to the side with hand over mouth, eyes seen to be smiling, artwork beyond. Head and shoulders shot of the artist looking directly at viewer, he is bearded and balding, a large artwork fills the background.

Local cops are not on the side of Democratic politicians or under their actual control. People refuse to understand this too even though we've been making this point for decades.

Finally here’s some fotos of CONSUELO JIMÉNEZ UNDERWOOD the artist behind the art! #AbstrsctArtist #Chicana
The artist gazes out at the viewe, her dark hair parted in the middle and falling to bear her shoulders. She wears large glasses and a huipil in golden yellow & dark & light purple, that looks like it might be Amuzgo, woven in a backstrap loom. The artist at a bit of an angle, seated, looks at the viewer. In front of of her is a piece of art and behind her hangs another.

Food - as ever - is as central to Mexican/Mexican-American culture one one side of the border as the other. And there are certain foods - like nopal & tortillas that are even more powerful touchstones & symbols, as in these works by CONSUELO JIMENEZ UNDERWOOD. #AbstractArtist

MIGUEL HERNÁNDEZ URBÁN started doing monumental sculpture in the 1990s but it’s hard to find fotos of them on the interwebs. One amazing one is La Tehuana, which is glorious but not at all abstract lol - look it up tho!

Finally some portraits of GABRIEL OROZCO himself
The artist seems mid-sentence, lips parted and seeing to make eye contact with someone off the the left. Gabriel Orozco stands in a gallery, wearing all black save some snake/skin looking light colored shoes. Gazes at the viewe with eyes and face creased in a smile.
fotoslasirena.bsky.social
In this painting GABRIEL OROZCO, left nothing to chance. oh no, wait, in fact almost *everything* WAS left to chance. Painting was a significant departure for Orozco as it is art that is about itself & not in relationship to daily life. A game of chance determined color, placement, aspect of circle.
Kytes Tree (2005) GABRIEL OROZCO.
fotoslasirena.bsky.social
Ephemerality, chance, nature, construction, found, self, objects and human relationships… like a lot of abstract & conceptual art, GABRIEL OROZCO asks us to think and feel and challenge the ideas of limits between art and everyday objects #AbstractArtist
