I’ve visited your beautiful museum on 6th of Aug 2018 and stood next the plaque. Heard the wonderful story of Jan vd Driesschen who sadly passed away on 30 March last year.

Steenbergen is also the last resting place of one of the most famous UK RAF pilots: WC Guy Penrose Gibson, VC, DSO & Bar, DFC & Bar. He crashed with his navigator SQL James Brown Warwick DFC on Sep 19th 1944. Lest We Forget 🌺

In Welberg near Steenbergen there was bitter fighting fr Canadians against the Germans in Oct/Nov 1944. A Freedom bell, poppy field and plaques are reminding us. Not to forget the poppy viaduct. Lest We Forget 🌺

Steenbergen in West Brabant once was an important fortress town in Zuiderwater linie. You can still see the remnants of the ramparts. Info: www.zuiderwaterlinie.nl

#onthisday in 1944 Wing Commander Guy Gibson, VC, DSO & Bar, DFC & Bar died at the age of 26 along with Squadron Leader Jim Warwick when their Mosquito crashed in Steenbergen, Netherlands.

It was Guy Gibson who led No. 617 Squadron on the Dambusters Raid in May 1943. #ww2
