Sailaja Kamaraju, MD, is leading a phase III national trial locally to find out if a lower dose of tamoxifen is as effective as usual hormonal therapy. The trial focuses on post-menopausal women who have certain types of low risk early stage breast cancer.

We collected 538 pounds of returned medications from 217 households during last Saturday’s drive-thru drug collection at Frodtert & MCW Moorland Reserve Health Center. Thanks to our volunteers and all who stopped to drop off their unused, expired or unwanted medications for safe disposal.

Some risk factors for breast cancer include getting older, family history, genetic mutations, alcohol consumption and prior radiation therapy to chest area. If you have certain risk factors, you may need to get screened earlier than age 40. Talk to your doctor.
