Marvel Studios hasn't been good creatively for a long time. You can argue it still makes money, but it's clearly not what it was considering box office declines. Only stuff youve mentioned ive actually liked was FF and Xmen 97 and thats mostly because it didnt have much to do with the larger mcu.

Its good when this happens because we dont have stories regurgitated to us with modern sensibilities in live action which is why I think Marvel has been in the toilet lately. Instead its good the movies ARE their own vision while taking the goodies we have read and loved along the way.

I'd say too that Batman 89 was very similar as it was Tim Burton's vision and story but took the art and personality of Frank Millar's Dark Knight Returns and Denny O'neil's Batman run.

One of the things here that's worth saying here is that while Gunn's Superman is very much his vision and his story, the film SCREAMS with the art and personality of Grant Morrison and Frank Quietly's ALL STAR SUPERMAN and that combination of flavors really made the movie fun and great for me.
