Scientist knew CO2 warms the atmosphere since 1859 as J.Tyndall experimentally demonstrated…or did he? Fact is 3yr earlier a #women in #STEM published her results w same findings, her name was Eunice Newton Foote & this is her nearly forgotten discovery: 🧪#AcademicSky 🎢

Workshop 4 of 5 on remodelling the software development life-cycle from a feminist perspective, coming up this Friday. If you didn't get a chance to attend previous ones, don't worry, we will start with a recap before starting the next iteration of our proposed feminist life-cycle.

Today we are hosting our 2nd forum on 'unpacking the software development life-cycle'. Following on from these sessions we are hosting 3 workshops in March (feel free to attend all or pick & choose) in which we "remodel" the life-cycle from a feminist perspective www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/remodellin...

A reminder of this event in two weeks, come talk to us about what you think a 'full stack feminist software development life-cycle' might consist of? What elements of the user testing, software design, requirements, deployment, might be improved through intersectional feminist methods or approaches?

This forum is an open discussion, exploring the potentials of foregrounding the software life-cycle from a feminist perspective to see whether rethinking elements of the life-cycle - how they are performed, operationalised - through a feminist lens may result in more inclusive, less harmful tech.

Their contribution challenges the notion that the "internet is forever" & explores how early internet discussion boards are at risk. While not a specific problem for queer communities, the study highlights the precariousness of queer histories, & exemplifies Avery's work in this area queerdigital.com

My new journal article, "Digital Scholarly Journals Are Poorly Preserved: A Study of 7 Million Articles" has now been published in JLSC. If our findings are correct, there is a serious preservation deficit in the digital scholarly record.

The work described is based on collaborations between feminist collectives, Anarchaserver, Systerserver & Leverburns, who create tech. for communities built upon feminist values & based on ideas of autonomous technology & empowerment. In this way they create affective techno-social infrastructure

Still time left to sign up for this event - what is a feminist software life-cycle? What could it be? What principles might it embed? What value system, method of working, or processes of engagement? #feministDH #feministsoftware #weneedtotalkaboutsoftware

Google "software development lifecycle" - you'll get a number of different, but similar, models. Software dev. is a male-dominated field, & the SDLC was created by men, for men.Is it a coincidence then that software which result from these models aren't designed inclusively, is there an alternative?

How #algorithims are developed is critical. Equally, how we research them, from what persecutive is crucial: "I focus on algorithms used in migration. My approach is different from a policy standpoint that might audit the algorithm to see its everyday impact on migrants"...see Irene's paper for more

We talk about #algorithms all the time, Irene Fubara-Manuel considers a number of aspects of the term - technically, socially and culturally, prompting the question, do we need 'A New Vernacular of Algorithms' (2023)
