Malik is not great but he does look after Caleb well (obviously it's in his benefit to do so, he will always be self-serving) Adrian hates to see that but it's definitely better than anything he can promise Caleb.
Haven't really settled for specific ages but they're not all that diff in age

Tbh it's something Malik respects greatly tho he would never tell that to Adrian, but the power to love something so much and still be able to let it go is something Malik would never understand. He would never let Caleb go the way Adrian did. But that's the difference between them

Even if Caleb tells him that he's earned this money, it still comes from a bratty rich prick that Adrian would rather die than bend a knee for.
It's bittersweet; Adrian did his best so Caleb could survive and maybe get a better life, and now he has to let him go.

So now when Caleb went on to choose working for Malik, it did hurt Adrian greatly but he knew it was a better life for him. He never has to worry about food or money or a roof over his head. It's everything he's ever wanted for Caleb, shame it came from someone like Malik

Things snowballed into bigger problems that eventually became the foundation of creating the gang Adrian leads now.

Basically Caleb and Adrian were orphans who escaped and became little street rascals. Adrian looking after Caleb had to learn to become very mean very fast. They'd steal clothes and food and get into all sorts of trouble with the law for survival. But Adrian always looked after Caleb
