Weirdly for a film with limited game tie-ins, the NES got TWO versions of Ghostbusters 2!!

Activision’s shoddy game was massively eclipsed by a wholly different title from Hal Laboratory - and cracking it is too!

But while PS sometimes bettered SEGA’s machine, it wasn’t all one way

The perfect version of Grandia is on Saturn - and it’s as awesome today as it was then!

SEGA doing a Model 2 port is one thing, but for Tecmo to do such a cracking job is quite another!

Aah yeah they quite possibly were in the UK too - Guardian Heroes I’m pretty sure was. And Treasure worked super closely with them - but still independently developed so would count it. Both amazing games - just haven’t lost a single inch of their playability in nearly thirty years!

I never saw Saturn Bomberman coming!

I loved the earlier games but guessed (wrongly!) the franchise wouldn’t survive into the next generation

But wow I’m glad it did! Absolutely unbeatable in multiplayer with loads of ideas and endless fun!

Capcom was so good to the Saturn - and its fighters were such a part of why I loved it! - that they don’t even feel like a 3rd party!

Well, yes and no!!

Data East’s The Real Ghostbusters does get the branding and gives you a proton pack - but that’s it! Cos it’s a reskin of a JP run’n’gun called Meikyuu Hunter G!

I was so excited for Dreamcast pre-launch - but mainly my hype was focused on Sonic Adventure

I had no idea how good it was going to get!

I got my DC after Soul Calibur launched and could not BELIEVE how good it was!!

Aah man totally agree, that’s just how I feel - it IS a bit janky, so in truth I know it’s not amazing. But like a lot of GB games I’m quite forgiving of some jank as it’s got charm and is quite fun! Game Boy just seems to get away with it!!

Activision made its first games in 1980 - churning out Atari 2600 titles

But it was the 1982 releases - including Chopper Command and the seminal Pitfall! - that established the brand

Ghostbusters (see below!) was by the same guy as Pitfall! by the way! (David Crane)

The whole ‘two versions of the same game’ thing’ is so fascinating!

So let’s have a look at HAL Laboratory and Activision who made the twin Ghostbusters 2 titles!

First up, HAL who began in 1980 making games for Vic 20 like these two puppies!
