Movember update. I now look like a former officer of the New Model Army about to stand trial for regicide.

Incidentally, did you know the Welsh for Movember is Tachewedd?

Seeing a lot of love for Neil Young on his 80th birthday yesterday. Many people listing their top 5 songs, which is great, but none of them feature this, so they're all wrong.

Watching a documentary about Richard Burton. Just found out he was 58 when he died - a year older than me!

He did drink a lot more vodka than me, mind.

I have a hankering to record an album of drone music. The sort that melts your brain, drenched in Echorec and earthquake inducing sub bass. Should I do this?

My Tadcu was from Llanddewi Brefi. As was a common practice in Ceredigion at the time, he was apprenticed as a draper's assistant and sent to a big emporium in South Wales. He hated it, ran away, and joined the newly formed 16th Cardiff City Bat. Welch Regt. A few months later, he was on the Somme.

Has it really been 6 years? After 30-odd years of radio silence, the Mavis Riley Experience decided to reform for a one-off special (2 rehearsals we had!). I came down with a nasty cold the night before, and my voice was rough as a badger's arse. But we had a good time ...

Spyder, spyder sitting tight
On the skirting, late at night
What immortal hand or eye
Dare make thy legs so spindly?

And yes, this reminder is entirely necessary for the first few days. You try being 57.

It's that time of year again - the first day of winter in Wales and mid-point in the slow death of the year. Keep the flame burning and raise a glass to the dead when they walk....

Just had some bad news, Des Henley of Fumble has died. My dad was good friends with the band, and I played with them a few times at their Christmas charity concerts. They had a bit of success in the Pub Rock days and Des was a talented guitar player and singer. RIP.

People would do well to remember this.
I'm old enough to have grown up with family who fought in WWII. They rarely talked about it and when they did it was to warn, not glorify. Remembrance Day was a time of quiet, sombre reflection. They would be horrified at the twisted celebration it has become.
