The mighty Sword of Orion, with stars. The Sword is home to the Running Man Nebula, the Great Orion Nebula, and De Mairan's Nebula, which is the one that looks like a little paisley. #Astronomy #Astrophotography

This is about seven hours of The Pelican (IC 5070) in Cygnus. I think I'm going to work on this for another night or two and see if I can improve the detail. #Astronomy #Astrophotography

Dusty Orion

3 weeks ago I got the chance to travel to dark skies for the first time in over 2 years! This is an image of the famous Orion nebula plus the Running Man Nebula, all against a backdrop of dust and gas.
61 x 3 mins (+ 60 x 10 sec exposures for the bright core).

This is my third go at M45 (the Pleiades) this season, because I wasn’t happy with the other two. About half of this was taken in the presence of the 1st quarter moon. #Astronomy #Astrophotography

The wonderful Clavius crater in the Moon's Southern highlands. I love this crater as its so distinctive, and the many craters within it, with a wide range of sizes, makes it a great test of imaging and scope resolution.
The smallest features visible in this image are around 1 mile across

My last attempt on the Pleiades.
Easy to capture, not that easy to keep clean , in particular, collimation to get crisp star spikes.

Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

This is NGC7293, the Helix Nebula. I got a couple of hours of it last month, but that didn't feel like enough. I got another couple last night. I'd like to double the exposure time, but the seeing is supposed to be awful tonight, and there's rain coming. I'll try. #Astronomy #Astrophotography
