Spent decades building expertise in areas I don't pay attention to anymore. Now read a lot about plants. Wikipedia says I'm best known for a wrestling history book. Southwestern Ontario.
Whenever I see this emoji: 😂 I think of the Beavis and Butt-head laugh. The sign of a joyously unaware dolt.

A show about a guy growing homunculi in his shed didn't sound like something I'd enjoy. Glad I (provisionally, at least!) trusted the review by @jackseale.bsky.social. "The most beautiful friendship you will see on TV for many a year." It was. Don't know where/when it's on here.

As "circling back" season begins, I see that I haven't actually received an email with someone say they're circling back since 2007. I'm both happy and sad about that.

NotebookLM's recent change where it tacks an analogy on to the end of answers feels like Barney coming in to tell me what I learned today.

For accuracy's sake, if I give up on advent calendars it won't be because I've outgrown them, it'll be because I've reached the point where 24 days goes by in the blink of an eye.

Just watched Spinal Tap II tonight and was amazed to realize that Rob Reiner was only 36 when he did the first one. Very sad story.

Between Wendy's spending weeks promoting a non-existent app feature and Burger King letting me know about bonus points they didn't actually provide, Canadian fast food companies are really the worst at this app stuff.

Sunoco is back in Ontario ... as the new owners of M&M Food Market.
Did you know M&M Food Market is no longer Canadian? Sunoco buyout of Parkland means surprising things for Canadian retail
The Parkland buyout deal likely flew under the radar for many Canadians, which meant they missed an important detail

A book of mine from 25 years ago currently listed on eBay for US$650. It's been signed by some of the biggest names ever in wrestling (Thesz, Bockwinkel, Hodge, etc.) but the seller doesn't seem to have any idea and doesn't mention any of them in the listing.

The new slide decks in NotebookLM are pretty amazing. Certainly in appearance. Art work looks great.

The outpouring of mourning for the great and hilarious "alt-country" genius Todd Snider seemed an excellent reason to devote this month's Big Lookback to a Barnes & Noble Review appreciation I wrote about Snider more than a decade ago. robertchristgau.substack.com/p/the-big-lo...

I'm very sorry to report that the great alt-country singer-songwriter Todd Snider has died at 59 of undiagnosed walking pneumonia. I stick by what I wrote about him in 2012. www.robertchristgau.com/xg/bn/2012-0... Here's Rolling Stone's coverage. www.rollingstone.com/music/music-...

Have been a Todd Snider fan for over 20 years. A great songwriter whose stories were even better. Wrote a fantastic memoir too.

People who talk about "tall poppy syndrome" usually seem to be smug, pompous jerks.
