They’ll sand the edge then blend in new paint. It’s our upstairs neighbour & his dad who are doing it for us. So I got him to come down to check that bit to ask if I should use any filler there but he said just leave that for paint. Paint starts Monday!

Nothing, that was me 🤣That bit of wall has always been damp, so I knew it’d be a problem. There was cracked paint so I scraped it off to fill and then found loads was loose and falling away. So I scraped off the rest of the unsound paint until I found the edges that were firm and fine then stopped.

I'm merely pointing out that it's not a new word and has been in use for a long time, it's simply that in one country, they have refined it to a specific singular part of that, which is what happens over time, and perfectly normal. It's delightful that you're still using it.

no condescension, it's just how language works - it's simply how meanings of words can shift and meld to absorb further context over time and usage, which is how language works. It still refers to "passion" and the many ways in which that can be expressed: a crush, heavy petting, kissing etc

Heavy petting includes that so yes, it’s still the same word. Just forgotten by younger generations, so it’s understandable that some may think it’s a “new” word. It’s just language that’s come back into fashion, as often happens.

Thing is it’s not Australian, it’s just older English that fell out of use about a century ago. Either the Australians didn’t stop using it or thought they invented it due to the younger generation’s unfamiliarity with old literature. It’s certainly not unknown.

Yes it is, but it fell out of use about 100 years ago. You’ll come across it on older books though. I suppose the Australians just didn’t stop using it, and so thought they invented it.

Incorrect, as it’s originally an English word, it’s just archaic and fell out of use in modern times. It’s an older term our grandparents would have heard but it was petering out already in their time. But I’m a ‘79 edition & aware of it due to literature 🤷‍♀️

I feel your pain. Matt took the router off the wall to paint so now it’s too far away for Wifi to reach the bedroom (where I have to spend most of my time) so having to use 4G on my phone most of the time again which is annoying as hell. Also can’t watch stuff on iPad like usual. 😡
