The original post made clearer that the game DID appear in Japan some months before it did in the Americas. This is the North American anniversary, but even that has some question about the EXACT date in October, with some sources suggesting later in the month.

Happy *maybe* 45th American anniversary to Pac-Man?
(apologies to those who liked my original attempt to celebrate the possible anniversary. The original post I shared was blocked for some reason, prompting this second attempt.)

Pac Man kind of brought video games into the mainstream. Sort of the Mario of its day.

It was the first one that was a big deal in general.

Can you believe that the 30th anniversary of the Transformers franchise was, itself, more than a decade ago? This week, we look at the Sandstorm toy released for the occasion.

An interesting look at censorship in comic books, presented (somewhat surprisingly) by the Presbyterian Church (USA):

The JSA first appeared in 1941, but faded away after about a decade, and didn't come back to star in their own title until late in 1975, introducing new characters to the team. I'm celebrating the 50th anniversary of the JSA's "Next Generation."

I started out writing a feature on the G1 Technobot, Strafe, but quickly realized that there's just not a lot of say about this isolated combiner team member, so I also have a look at some later toys that share Strafe's name.

I've just learned of the passing of writer Ron Friedman. Not only did he write for the 1986 animated Transformers: The Movie, but readers of my blog may remember that he also wrote the screenplay for "Fall of a Legend," an episode of UPN's Legend that I covered a few months ago.

Rest in Peace

The correct anniversary of the Transformers franchise is, of course, the comic release (if not, in fact, commercials for it that aired even earlier!)

Forty-one years ago today, "More than Meets the Eye, Part 1" made its network debut... although "Transformers Day" is based on this fact, the Marvel comic had already beaten the cartoon to the punch by a whole three months! Which do you prefer?

It turns out that today is National Video Games Day! Or, at least, someone said it was, and so it is (I always take these things with a grain of salt). Still, it's an excuse to talk about Ms. Pac-Man....
