What's the fastest you've ever turned around a (major) paper revision? And what's your strategy- letter first, then edits? Something else?

Sharing some love from our ETHOS research centre's winterval celebrations last night.

Community is the *best* thing about academia, working alongside smart, passionate people at all stages of their career. I feel very lucky!

I was promoted to Reader! A rather odd academic job title that is dying out... but recognises the strength of my research standing. Hurrah!

This reflects the challenges we see on the ground for women staff, as well as the broader political and cultural backslide on gender equity

Today I attended a lecture online and listened, thought, and thought some more. Just for intellectual growth. Kind of what I thought academia would be like!

#AI #chatbots conducting #interviews is wrong on so many levels:
- Ethically (duty of care to our participants; huge questions about privacy & protection of data)
- Methodologically (distance between us & data means we risk losing the depth & rigour that qualitative methods provide)
And more...
Could AI chatbots replace replace researchers in conducting interviews? Here is the article that presents a "simple, versatile open-source platform for researchers to run AI-led interviews".

Re-posting to share with new followers the kind of research I've been working on in recent years:

#Misogyny in #Organizations.

Inspired by the fabulous philosophical work of @katemanne.bsky.social & applied to the world of work.

"High profile cases tell us that misogynistic behaviours are commonplace in all workplaces, with implications for inclusivity, productivity and wellbeing".

I'm going on maternity leave in ~3 weeks for 2nd baby. Trying to battle the rising panic of taking months out of work after a not very productive (academically speaking) year. My head knows that it will be fine, my anxiety is not listening! Anyone else been there?

I'm reminded of a seminar with Doug Holt, a marketing prof, who'd worked on segmentations of US citizens & what they needed to act on climate.

Some people *wanted* to be told how to live, they wanted direction. Others needed incentives. Others needed different frames again.
Great to see Starmer committing the UK to a strong climate target at COP29. But.... the framing of (I quote) "What we're not going to do, is start telling people how to live their lives" is unhelpful.

Instead: "We know that people are concerned about climate, & we're going to help them to act"
