My friend who I'm making a short family book for said last night, "But it's making more work for you." And I laughed and said, "No, this is FUN!" My Grandma also doesn't get that "I'm doing research" means "I'm having fun and relaxing," she thinks I'm working on the weekends. #Genealogy

That sounds pretty normal. I don't have any uncommon surnames, but also no Jones'! I do have 5 unrelated Davies families. Turns out the part of Cardiganshire most of my Davies' are from, 25% of the population was a Davies by the early 1800s. There's ways around the potential complications though

Neat! My ancestors didn't get up that way too often, but maybe one day I'll figure out a way to do some north Wales research hehe

Cool. Where's your Welsh family from?

Last night I discovered my bestie's mother did a DNA test which, at the 3x great grandparent level, could take us back to people born in the early 1800s. The tree has a brick wall every generation back to her 2x grandparents. Idk which test it was yet, but fingers crossed for Ancestry. #Genealogy

Oh that's good! Fingers crossed it goes smoothly.

I just got my order from the GRO will & probate site. They sent me the incorrect will, which is for the next guy in the probate index. Hopefully they give me a refund... A reminder that this is the company that wants to digitize & destroy all the paper copies of the wills. #Genealogy

Just found an ancestor's obituary: "by industry and hard work he worked himself into a good financial position." I'm sure he did work hard, but I don't know how hard he could have worked for the 1200 pounds (almost 100,000 pounds by 2017 standards) that his sister gave him in her will. #Genealogy

One of the things I've found so far on this branch is a famous Eisteddfodwr (someone who competes in the Welsh arts festival) named Daniel Evan Hughes. There was even a photo of him in the newspaper from 1954 with his many many trophies, medals, & ribbons. Super cool! #Genealogy

I just helped someone break a brick wall on their 3x great grandparents. So now they're my distant cousin through my 7x great grandparents. Their brick wall was in the 1820s & parts of this line I've taken back to the 1600s, so that'll fun for them! #Genealogy

As I research this branch I just found out 1 of the grandkids, Daniel, married Rachel Evans, whose sis-in-law's bro-in-law is Daniel's 2nd cousin. Very relevant to the talk I just gave for the @sogorg.bsky.social . This brick wall actually came down by the method I outline in that talk #Genealogy

Last night, I did some #Genealogy work on a family associated with my big brick wall. I managed to make a 4 gen tree, stretching daughter to mother back to the late 1700s. Not sure why the men don't want me to find them? Weird. Pretty sure I can take the eldest gen back another couple decades too.

Thank makes sense!! Thank you :D

Anyone seen this before on an England & Wales birth certificate entry? Would the 29 refer to the parents returning 11 days later on the 29th to add his name or maybe less likely Henry getting his name added in 1929 at 66 years old? Nothing else out of the ordinary on the record. #Genealogy

I do a lot of FAN research. Most of the time I just create a bunch of floating trees for the people I'm wanting to research. I do it in Libre Office Draw, but it's easy enough in any software. I just make sure also to put a note for why I'm researching them cause otherwise I forget. #Genealogy

Oh thanks! I didn't know that! I'll do that too :D

The adventure begins: I just emailed 23 Family History Societies today to see if they'd like to have me come give my presentation, “Reflecting on Your Self to Discover Your Ancestors.” Here's hoping at least some of them get back to me! #Genealogy

Cool! Such amazing detail. I've never seen one like that, though it's mostly assumed in the Welsh wills I generally look at that everyone is named after their elder generations.

This also means yet another of the mystery people mentioned in his will is a relative: So far I've found them to be his niece's b-i-l, cousin's b-i-l, b-i-l, son, & on his wife's side, her cousin's husband, b-i-l, & brother. Now only 2 more people lacking family connections! #Genealogy

Broke a small brick wall last night. I was convinced my 6x grandfather's niece, Mary John Richard, married his friend's brother, David Jones, but couldn't prove it. Last night I found the proof in a record I got from my archive visit (their son's baptism from before they got married) Woo! #Genealogy
Zoomed-in family tree showing Mary and David. The most important thing to note is that I knew, and still know, almost nothing about David, other than he was a farmer. He died sometime before the 1st census in 1841 & I've found no burials for him in any parishes that would make sense.
