I understand the white house has a Bluesky account now. What do we think the algorithms would do if we all blocked it en masse? I’ll go first.

Today we honor and celebrate the history and contributions of indigenous people everywhere.

On National Coming Out Day, know that I will always be an ally to you — no matter where you are on your journey.

I know that times may be scary, but you are seen, safe, supported, and loved here in Illinois.

Nature has a way of reminding me that I am never completely in control of my garden. Here we have volunteer salvia (pink) happily invading the culinary sage. Perhaps they are having a play date for cousins:

We are near the end here in Zone 5. Yet, these guys refuse to believe it:

Ok, the herb garden got a little haircut. Now what do I do?

Are any other gardeners crazy enough to wash, dry and store these guys so they can be reused next year? The cost is negligible. It’s more about managing our carbon footprint and trying (perhaps symbolically) to imitate nature, where nothing goes to waste.

On Juneteenth, we celebrate freedom and recommit ourselves to the work that remains undone. We remember that even in the darkest hours, there is cause to hope for tomorrow’s light.

For those who say “Illegal is illegal.”

On this Juneteenth, remember: slavery was once legal. Harboring a fugitive enslaved person? Illegal. Black freedom? Illegal. “Illegal is illegal” has always been used to defend injustice.

Legality ≠ morality. Justice calls us higher.
