Here's my full review of #TronAres, which I was mixed on but, more than not, enjoyed.

It has a very familiar, non-challenging Disney movie feel that also happens to be Tron.
'Tron: Ares' Is 'Tron' at Its Most Disney
Jared Leto and Greta Lee star in the sequel to 'Tron: Legacy', which opens October 10.

Five years ago I wrote an article about the then 10 year wait between Tron Legacy and its sequel. It was partly meant to be a joke: gizmodo.com/a-brief-hist...

Five years after that, #TronAres is finally happening. Only been 15 years since the last one (and 43 years since the original.)

Spoke to Brian Henson today about next week's Dark Crystal Fathom event and casually teased that while Age of Resistance is probably over, there is more Dark Crystal in the works.

Maybe even on the big screen.
The World of 'Dark Crystal' May Not Be as Finished as We Thought
io9 spoke with filmmaker Brian Henson about the legendary film, returning to theaters October 12-13.

I’ve seen every PTA movie in the theatre since Boogie Nights, but never seen one in 70mm, full screen, blow your mind IMAX. Let’s go.

What an unforgettable September.

Several amazing LA movie events? ✅
Boston for posters at Mass MiniCon? ✅
Austin for movies at Fantastic Fest? ✅
London for a Star Wars set visit? ✅

I’m very lucky. And very tired.

I never thought I’d be able to visit a Star Wars set. Today I did.

I can’t say much but I can say I flew to London to visit the set of Ahsoka season 2.

Besides this pic, everything I saw and learned is embargoed until a later date. But today was truly a dream come true. An incredible experience.

Are you ready for some Wednesday night football?

Well, clearly. But those were just random examples. i’m saying, for me, there’s is not one thing in that trailer that says “this had to be a movie and not a tv episode” and that’s all i want. one thing. anything. justify it. they haven’t. they will! but this was the time.

After seeing fun, vague teasers at D23 and Celebration, I hoped the first full trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu would justify why this specific story has to be told on the big screen.

It did not.

Give me a big villain. Give me the repopulation of Mandalore. Give me a ride on a Mythosaur.

Obsessed with Obsession. A man wishes for his crush to love him more than anything in the world, and it works. The result is one of funniest, scariest, most insane movies I’ve seen in a long, long time. It’s so simple and yet you never know what’s coming next. #FantasticFest

The first one is good but #BlackPhone2 is GREAT.

It takes everything that worked about the first movie and really leans into it. More of the sister. More gore. Part Nightmare on Elm Street, part Stranger Things, with heart and humor too. A true level up.

#FantasticFest

See you soon, Austin. #fantasticfest

Mass MiniCon is forcing me into a mini tour of cool Boston movie theaters and I’m not mad at it.

The Smashing Machine is an acting showcase for The Rock and Emily Blunt, who are both fantastic. The movie itself is emotional and moving but feels a little too familiar in a lot of ways. A story we’ve seen before just through a new lens. But it’s very good all around.

Here's my full write-up on the excellent JAWS exhibition at the Academy Museum here in LA.

It opens Monday and will be there for a year so, no rush. But definitely check it out because it's incredible. I've got proof right here...
If You're a 'Jaws' Fan, Do Not Miss This New Exhibition
The tribute to the Steven Spielberg classic opens September 14 and runs through July 26, 2026, at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles, CA.

The Jaws exhibit at the Academy Museum is AWESOME.

Full report tomorrow on @io9dotcom.bsky.social but here’s a small sampling of some of the screen used props on display.

One Battle After Another is like every intense, hilarious, edge of your seat, iconic Paul Thomas Anderson scene strung together into utter beauty. It’s a wild, non-stop, roller coaster that’s hilarious, dark & not at all what you’re expecting. It’s weird, it’s great. I loved it.

Extremely excited to be seeing my favorite filmmaker’s new film tonight.

"I want to ride a lightcycle."

Last year, Disney flew me to the set of #Tron: Ares in Vancouver to learn all about this long-in-the-making sequel.

I had questions, I wanted answers, and I got them.

I also got to sit on an actual lightcycle.

Here's my full, extensive report from the set.

James Gunn's second Superman movie is arriving BEFORE Matt Reeves' second Batman movie.

Did not see that one coming.
