Therefore, we examine in this study to what extent the neurodiversity movement's ideas match well with the experiences of people with Tourette's.

When people list conditions that fit under the neurodiversity umbrella, they often mention Tourette syndrome. Much of what is written about neurodiversity though, stems from autistic experiences.

But as autistic people do look for therapy for mental health problems, it makes sense to adjust therapy to the needs at hand. Acceptance is key here indeed, but I don't think any one is served well with 'unconditional' acceptance. More about the rationale for this study here: tinyurl.com/yk88zp4a

Hi @everydayhuman.bsky.social . Not sure what your point is in relation to the study and to psychotherapy for autistics. Obviously, we are not interested in fixing, because we don't believe anything has been broken. (1/2)

Why does #psychotherapy (not) work well for autistic people? Can therapy for mental health issues become more #autism adjusted and neuro-affirmative?

I'm excited about this much-needed, new interview study with #autistic clients and their psychotherapists!

Are you an autistic adult who is or has been in psychotherapy? Or, are you a therapist who works with autistic adults?
Take part in this interview study and help us better adjust psychotherapy for the autistic population.

We deserve "more than a lick of paint", we deserve "structural social change" 🦾.

We argue that government neurodiversity politics should be firmly based on documented priorities of neurodivergent communities: creating accessible and inclusive education, healthcare and workplaces; and rooted in the legal frameworks and activist traditions of the wider disability movement.

By picking examples such as fonts and wall colours, and by separating neurodiversity policies from disability rights, de Vries largely underplays the potential and responsibilities of states to become "significantly more neuro-neutral".

How can goverments address inequalities experienced by neurodivergent minorities? Philosopher B de Vries argued that accessible fonts in official documents and pastel wall colours in public buildings are key🤯 EmmaMoormann and I reacted
