I’m stepping away from storyboarding work a bit. I’ve burnt out. Drawing just gives me anxiety, makes my hands seize up and ache and have constant panic attacks to the point of insomnia. Even just sitting down with the intent to draw makes me physically ill.
I’m generally a positive person but I don’t know how to keep going in this industry/job climate when drawing brings me so much pain- mentally and physically. I’m drowning, and I know I’m not the only one. So many friends have had to pivot to find other sources of income or leave LA entirely.

Optimistically with savings/unemployment I maybe have 3 months before I have to decide if I want to leave LA myself. I’m now unemployed and open to non-storyboard positions like animatic editing, animation timing- even animated pilot or series consultation, as I have several pilots under my belt.

My long term plan is to get certified to become a teacher. Before my animation career, I originally wanted to be a history teacher- and over the last few years I’ve taken great joy as a mentor for the Netflix Animation Foundations Program and in my own time through email correspondence with students.

I’ve always kept my email accessible (getvent@icloud.com) and my DMs open to students trying to learn more about the animation industry, the visa/immigration process or earnest questions on how to improve as an artist. If you’d like me to review your portfolio (on a sliding scale) please reach out.

At this moment I’m mostly applying to non-animation jobs. My living situation/personal life has greatly changed over the last few months, so I’m trying to keep my head above water.

If I’ve been quiet, this is why. Any mutuals want to catch up/have space to talk- I’d love to hear from you.
