Do you have Saiki’s release height and extension? Want to see how comparable he is to Imanaga
giantsprospects.bsky.social
I think Gray won’t be where they go. They’ll have to extend him to bring CBT AAV down. Would be paying to hope that his underperformance of his peripherals over the last two years will right itself. Otherwise he’s too expensive.

A couple of guys who have fallen off that I like as targets this offseason, Jordan Walker and Kumar Rocker. I can’t imagine the price tag would be too hefty on either.

Bumgarner would need to throw 96 more innings at like a 7.00 ERA to be as bad as Kershaw.

Not going to say this is bad, immaterial, or good. I hope there was a process behind making this choice (we want our communication lines well defined with a consistent voice) rather than something knee-jerk (going to zig while everyone else zags) or worse, aesthetics (don’t want analysts in dugout)

For the major league team, the relocation of analysts clearly did not work, as the staff was not able or willing to utilize them to meet player’s needs. I would guess MiLB staff is better at utilizing the analysts from a distance, but nothing like being on-site. Indicates FO philosophy to an extent.
giantsprospects.bsky.social
The Giants did the same in 2025. They removed the data analysts from being on-site with the minor league teams and put them in the Arizona complex. So, on the same page as Mike Rizzo’s FO. www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2025/...
Additionally, in years past, the Nationals put performance analysts - staffers who could translate data and information from the analytics department for players and coaches - in the dugouts at each of their affiliates. Before the 2025 season, though, those analysts were told they should not be there. Early in De Bartolo's stint as interim GM, though, they returned. Managers were told to utilize the analysts as they best saw fit.

Shea: “I heard former Orioles manager Brandon Hyde, a Santa Rosa native who grew up a Giants fan, spoke this week with Posey. Unlike others, Hyde might not have a close relationship with Posey…”

What we know — and what we expect — about Buster Posey’s search for a Giants manager
After parting with Bob Melvin, it’s likely that Buster Posey will pursue a leader with a different type of resume.

Hard to have firm thoughts on any of these untested guys I think. Let’s see what the hire says, and the staff that gets put around him. That’ll be the interesting stuff.

Sounds like Casali will/was interviewed
giantsprospects.bsky.social
Speaking of which, is Hundley only interviewing with the Giants? Is that because that’s the only team he is interested in, or just not a candidate anywhere else? The latter would be a bit troubling.
giantsprospects.bsky.social
Not only is my guy Servais not getting a look with the Giants, he doesn’t seem to be getting interviews anywhere nor is he even being mentioned as a candidate. Unless I’ve missed anything. Ouch.

Manager candidate ranking based mostly on puff pieces:

1. Scott Servais - 2016-24 SEA
2. Skip Schumaker - 2023 NL MOTY. Unlikely
3. Rodney Linares - TB bench coach
4. Craig Albernaz - CLE bench coach, withdrew from MIA/CHW consideration in ‘24
5. Ryan Flaherty
6. Don Kelly
7. Daniel Descalso

In article, Posey is quoted in 2019 ST saying they’d have loved to keep Hundley, the backup instead was Vogt. In 2024, Vogt was a Giants managerial finalist, but ownership went with Melvin instead. Vogt’s now won MOY in ’24, likely again in ’25. Hundley is now top guy for manager. Interesting circle
giantsprospects.bsky.social
Sounds like it’s Hundley’s job if he wants it. As was the case with Melvin and Kapler, the staff around Hundley will probably be more important than the manager themselves. Posey indicated the FO will have input on that, should be interesting to see who they land.

There’s a guy at work who looks exactly like Zack Minasian and it trips me out every time I see him.

Baer: “Hey Buster, how about Ryan Vogelsong for pitching coach? Our season ticket holder surveys indicate he’s still quite popular. Our chicken enchilada concessions were down YoY, Vogey could help there too”

Posey: “Shut the fuck up Larry. Shut the fuck up!!!”

My hopes are pinned on this.
giantsprospects.bsky.social
My fatalist take on the Giants future is that the franchise is cursed as long as Baer steers the ship. The hope I have for Posey is that he can use his position officially and unofficially to curb Baer’s voice.

5. Then fires him to pick “his” guy, though Melvin could have been “his” pick too. All of this in hopes of circling back to a managerial philosophy more in line with Kapler’s staff

LLC backseat drives decisions, blows up in their face, swept under the rug. Minimal impact for future, but bad process

2. Ownership again intervenes, this time to finalize Chapman’s contract terms. TBF, I imagine ownership gets involved to some extent in big deals
3. An ownership figure literally becomes POBO.
4. Posey extends Melvin in an apparent attempt to “spur” the team (throw shit against the wall).

This doesn’t seem like how successful teams operate:
1. Ownership steps into baseball ops by picking Melvin, steering the team philosophy away from how Zaidi operated. Staff hires are conceded (it’s hard to imagine Zaidi picking Price, Christenson, or Williams). Posey’s role here is unclear

Not all that surprising, but first time seeing Melvin hire pinned on ownership. I would guess they also gave Melvin a free hand to hire his buddies. Question is who within ownership drove it, probably Baer, but Posey seemed involved in ops (see Chapman extension)

FanGraphs top 100 update has 1B Bryce Eldridge at 16, SS Josuar Gonzalez at 28, LHP Carson Whisenhunt at 84.

On Gonzalez: “Gonzalez is an incredible athlete with amazing athleticism and range on defense. He’s built like a young Francisco Lindor.” blogs.fangraphs.com/2025-end-of-...

I think you get him if you think he can be platooned at 2B.
