This photo was taken on the porch of the historic Grand Canyon Lodge when I was there as an Artist in Residence. The lodge, visitor center, cabins were all destroyed by a wildfire yesterday.

I'm not sure if they were able to save any historic or art items. It's heartbreaking...

18" SW pottery figure; the head is removable which made it easier to make and fire. I added ceramic feathers on the head and rattle and tied them on with leather. Clay, stains, oxides, and matte glazes.

With respect to my Hopi friends. This is for my own personal use.

It's a good thing I have art projects to give myself a break from the craziness every day. How are you coping?

Below, a new small woodcarving project done while listening to books on tape. Painting comes next.

Here's the before and after glaze fired gila monster. I am always a bit surprised at how the glazing turns out. It will look great in my yard! #ceramics

Working on a gila monster for my yard. This is bisqued BMix. I have glazed it with black engobe, velvet underglaze and just a bit of stroke and coat for a few glossy spots. #ceramics

A change up today, a pottery garden pole. Each segment is hand built from clay with a hole top and bottom so they can be arranged on a pole in any order.

Here's where you can add #gourds to your feeds.
January 28, 2025 at 1:23 AM
I am no programmer, but I have attempted to make a #gourds feed that you can follow. Go to your sidebar by clicking on the hamburger (3 horizontal lines) at the top of your personal page. Look for the #feeds heading and search for #gourds. Hopefully that will bring up every post tagged that way.

I made a simpler gourd than my usual this time. It has some surface carving, copper/patina, inlaid mosaic turquoise, and ironwood quail on lid. The gourd is about 11" wide & high with the lid on.

FYI - I am trying to get the hashtag #gourds set up as a feed so that you can follow it and all posts labeled that way will show up in one place.
