It’s possible, since the feature isn’t in GIMP yet, so who knows? If you are (or know) a programmer wanting to work on it, we’d love to hear more. But at least one professional animator is involved, which is promising.

Maybe
Your image is indexed (Image->mode, switch to RGB)
You are using a speckled brush
Your airbrush is in Screen mode instead of Normal (check Tool Options)
Maybe there could be other reasons. Post full screenshot w/ tool options and layers & title bar & status bar showing?
gimpofficial.bsky.social
We’d need to see what you mean by speckled. And what you mean by using transparency - if the background layer is transparent you should see a checkerboard by default in GIMP.

Yeah, this is always a problem with docks, inkscape has it too. Either you can't make them small enough or you end up hiding stuff. We try and improve it when it happens, and this one is on our list, we agree with you.
gimpofficial.bsky.social
Ah, it’s all the icons on th ebottom of the dock; it's 66 pixels wide here, but it depends on the icon theme and size you have (edit/preferences).
gimpofficial.bsky.social
Look for three vertical dots half-way up, just to the left of the main image, and drag there. If it won’t, it’s possible you’ve discovered a dock with a minimum size; find the likely culprit and at its top right there's a tiny triangle menu button; left-click that and "remove tab".

You can import the colours from the indexed image into a new palette by right-clicking on the palette in Palettes and choosing Import a New Palette, and selecing Image.

Palettes are saved in the palettes directory in your GIMP profile folder automatically.

Good point about the bio, thanks! Updated. It's a difficult choice, being on threads and facebook and twi... er... X. We post very minimally on X/twitter now. But i discovered a fake GIMP Official account on Instagram - better to be there than to be forged!
gimpofficial.bsky.social
Thanks. Yes, i’ll likely give it another go, maybe next week. Many of the GIMP team are getting ready for a face to face meeting so it might not happen until mid July; i’m making Instagram and threads accounts too - better late than never, right? :-) and we’re also on Mastodon.
gimpofficial.bsky.social
it didn't seem to matter. At the time when i made the bsky account there was a technical problem, but that’s been resolved so i could, now. Would it make a difference?
gimpofficial.bsky.social
GIMP does have filters/generic/gegl graph, which uses a simple text syntax to plug filters together, and can load/save presets, although by default for security reasons they are not stored nondestructively in saved files.
