She/her Finds bones and squishy bits of dead vertebrates fascinating. Often found with laden backpack (yes, it IS full of rocks, or bones) staring at the ground
Thank you, you’re very kind. They’d not been doing well and were older but it was still a complete shock. No one expected it that soon.

Me yesterday when I found out a mentor passed away 40 minutes before I taught my class that day. This week has been suboptimal so far.

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

Pretty cool
Week 4 of my stitch-the-news daily embroidery diary included:

Macron's blue sunglasses
Liam Ramos's fuzzy hat
Alex Pretti's hat and sunglasses
Yellow tear gas and a thermometer for protests despite frigid temperatures in Minneapolis
Bovino's coat
A Ring doorbell
A snow shovel
A wind turbine

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

It’s disconcerting to say the least. However, as I look/walk around campus, chat with peers, and teach, I see lots of folks who would be targeted by ICE simply for existing in these spaces.

Congratulations!!

So, my U sent guidelines today for dealing with ICE if confronted on Campus. I’m in NW Ohio. Thoroughly Midwest. Corn and beans country.
It can happen anywhere.

I got nothing. Just read the U’s framework for dealing with ICE on campus delivered via email today. We are living in strange times.

Hmm, perhaps? I never found it so but one (me) is an admittedly small sample size 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah, I teach a pretty diverse group of students. I’ve had ones from various countries, societies, religions, genders, ages, etc. Youngest was an 8th grader (yes, 8th grade!), oldest was in their 60s. I think it so important for growth. If you never chat with folks unlike you, how can you learn?

Every time I read the “Who are You?” surveys from my students, I’m encouraged at the sheer amount of enthusiasm and life experience they have. When I read anything about “college students” in the media, I remind myself they are diverse even when portrayed homogeneous. Just like every social group

Going no news this weekend for my mental health, except for weather. It’s just too much at the moment
January 24, 2026 at 12:43 AM
Set that good example 😊
January 24, 2026 at 12:40 AM
Ugh. Sorry this happened (already?!) to you. Told my students, “For the love of crunchy peanut butter, stay home when you’re sick! Seriously, don’t come in the classroom hacking, wheezing, and sneezing. It’s fine. We’ll catch you up.”
Still have those “dedicated” folks dragging themselves to class 😭
